WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary women’s swim team made another dominant showing, earning a 199-63 victory over previously-undefeated Towson with 13 wins and sweeping the podium in six events.
The men’s team came down to the final event but fell just short of the win with a final score of 141-121.
The Tribe women advance to 3-0 on the season and the men fall to 1-2, as Towson’s women’s team drops to 3-1 and the men improve to 4-0.
The Green and Gold took 13 of their 14 events and earned 32 podium finishes on the women’s side, while the men earned wins in five events with 22 podium finishes.
The women’s team went 1-2-3 in the 100 and 200 fly, the 50, 100 and 500 free, and the 200 IM.
Setting a pool and dual-meet record for the second consecutive week, this time in the 100 fly, Sophia Heilen.
Both the Tribe teams earned wins in the 200 medley relay as the men’s team of David Yune, Brock Rempe, Gavin Lamoureux and Aiden Bond finished in 1:30.91 and the women’s team of Kat Vanbourgondien, Lindsay Juhlin, Heilen and Meghan Rourke clocked in at 1:43.26.
The women’s 400 free relay team earned a first-place finish with a time of 3:28.18 by Flynn Truskett, Sarah Dunham, Sydney Querner and Caroline Burgeson.
Junior Ellie Scherer earned wins in all three of her events, sweeping the breast events with a 1:03.49 finish in the 100 breast and a 2:20.18 time in the 200 breast. Her 2:08.12 mark in the 200 IM was also good for a win.
Lauren Tucker, Vanbourgondien and Heilen each earned a pair of wins to help propel the Tribe over the Tigers.
Tucker took first place in both the 500 free and 1,000 free for the third-consecutive meet, earning a season best 10:14.45 finish in the 1,000 free.
Vanbourgondien swept the back events with a 55.81 mark in the 100 back and a 2:03.88 finish in the 200 back. Heilen also swept, earning first-place finishes in the 100 fly with her pool and dual-meet record time of 55.18 and the 200 fly with a 2:01.24 mark.
On the men’s side, Dyke earned his second win in the 1,000 free in as many meets, clocking in at 9:38.97.
Bond’s 46.31 finish in the men’s 100 free was good for a win and he earned a second-place finish in the 200 free with a 1:43.78 time.
Freshman duo Truskett and Dunham each led 1-2-3 finishes for the women as Truskett’s 50 free time of 24:16 and Dunham’s 51.96 mark in the 100 free were good for victories.
In the 50, Sydney Querner clocked in at 24.17 and Meghan Rourke earned a third-place finish with a 24.31 time. In the 100, Caroline Burgeson took second place with her 52.38 mark and Querner’s 52.70 finish landed her on the podium.

W&M swimming will be back home at Bee McLeod Rec Center at 2 p.m. on Nov. 4 to take on Loyola Maryland, after a break in the schedule next weekend.

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Towson University women’s and men’s swimming teams split against William & Mary in each squad’s first road dual Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) meet of the season. Towson’s men’s team defeated W&M 141-121. The women’s squad fell 199-63 to the Tribe.

For the Women:
- Bridget Thomas took third in the 1000 free with a time of 10:37.52.
- Addie Scott (1:54.06) and Thomas (1:56.30) went 1-2 in the 200 free.
- Ally Frame’s 57.79 was good for third in the 100 back.
- Riley Willett (1:06.68) took second and Tiffany Matulis (1:07.60) took third in the 100 breast.
- Frame (2:06.85) and Janine Murphy (2:08.03) finished second and third in the 200 back.
- Britney Denny’s time of 2:23.93 in the 200 breast was good for second place.
For the Men:
- Evan Bota, Brian Benzing, Benjamin Eischeid and Luke Schwar took second in the 200-medley relay with a time of 1:31.17.
- Teddy Ament took second in the 100 free with a time of 9:45.19.
- Eischeid placed first in the 200 free with a time of 1:42.47.
- Sean Colson went 50.84 in the 100 back, good for second in the event.
- Benzing won the 100 breast with a time of 54.32, which marks a pool record in the event, breaking the previous mark of 55.63 set by ODU’s Arni Arnason on 10/18/2008.
- Theo Dietrich went 1:56.35 in the 200 fly, good for third place.
- Michael Fazio took first in the 50 free with a time of 20.92. Schwar took third (21.32).
- Schwar (46.66), Daniel McLaughlin (46.93) and Fazio (47.18) went 2-3-4 in the 100 free.
- Colson finished first in the 200 back with a time of 1:50.16.
- Benzing took the 200 breast at 2:02.35, almost five seconds ahead of the next-closest finisher.
- Ament placed first in the 500 free at 4:39.83. Stephen McDonald took third (4:45.89).
- Benzing won his third event of the day in the 200 fly with a time of 48.55. Eischeid finished third (51.12).
- David Walton won the 200 IM with a time of 1:54.78.
- The 400-free relay team of Eischeid, Fazio, McLaughlin and Schwar took the top spot with a time of 3:04.50, securing the victory for the Tigers.
On Deck:
The Tigers’ men’s and women’s swimming & diving teams are competing in the Thomas Murphy Invitational, hosted by Loyola, with UMBC and Johns Hopkins. The meet begins Friday, Oct. 27, running through Sunday, Oct. 29. Prelims begin at 10:00 a.m. daily with finals sessions slated for 6:00 p.m. each evening.
