William and Mary Adds Logan McDonald to Class of 2026

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Logan McDonald announced that he will continue his swimming career this fall at The College of William and Mary. McDonald is from Lewisville, North Carolina where he swims with the Northwest North Carolina YMCA Riptyde and for his high school, West Forsyth High School.

I am so excited to spend the next 4 years of my life at William and Mary! I felt right at home on my visit and loved the campus, coaches, and my future teammates. Along with the astounding academics that W&M has to offer. Go Tribe!

In November, McDonald competed in both the 100 breast and 100 fly at the Junior Championships-East at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. At the meet, he dipped below 50.0 for the first time in the fly, touching in 49.96, which places 64th overall.

McDonald competed at the North Carolina 4A Swimming and Diving Championships during his first three years of high school. After being a relay-only swimmer his freshman year, the following year he raced both the 100 back and 200 IM. He finished 15th in both events, touching in 53.53 for the back, and 1:58.28 in the IM. He improved upon both of those times as a junior, taking 6th in the back (51.33) and 7th in the IM (1:53.88). The North Carolina state championship meet is typically held at the beginning of February.

Top SCY Times

  • 100 back – 50.88
  • 200 back – 1:56.30
  • 100 breast – 55.97
  • 200 breast – 2:12.80
  • 100 fly – 49.96
  • 200 IM – 1:53.30
  • 400 IM – 4:18.62

Extremely versatile, McDonald could be used in many events next season. Last season he would have been among the Tribe’s best in the 100’s of all three strokes and the 200 IM. His biggest impact would have been in the 100 breast, where his lifetime best would have made him the team’s second-fastest swimmer by over a second. He would have qualified for the A-final of that event at the 2021 Colonial Conference Swimming and Diving Championships.

William and Mary is currently in the midst of rebuilding its program after the team was briefly cut amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. The team’s head coach changed hands shortly before the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year, with long-time assistant Nate Kellogg being selected to lead the Tribe. Kellogg is now in his first full season as the head coach, with the pandemic causing meet cancellations during his first two years.

I remember when you were on the fence between swimming and soccer, and I told you to take your time and pick, but that you’d be awesome at either one you chose!

So glad that you stuck with swimming and now get to continue at the D1 level, with a awesome program! You’ve come a long way since NP1 Drag Races 😉.

So excited to see all the fantastic things you do in the pooland out at W&M! Congrats, and tell your family I said hello!
