Warrender Baths Tops Scottish National Age Group Championships

2017 SCOTTISH NATIONAL AGE GROUP CHAMPIONSHIPS (SNAGS)

The 5-day Scottish National Age Group Championships in Aberdeen wrapped up today, but not before several more youngsters punched a possible ticket to this July’s Commonwealth Youth Games. On the team front, Warrender Baths Club took the overall title, scoring a monster 1253.5 points ahead of 2nd place University of Aberdeen Performance Squad who notched 969.5.

Individually, based on FINA points, Keanna MacInnes‘ 200m butterfly (2:11.24) from day was named ‘Best Female Performance’, while Andrew MacIntish saw his 2:22.15 200m breaststroke earn ‘Best Male Performance.’

In terms of qualifying for the Commonwealth Youth Games later this summer, Scottish Swimming’s qualification criteria has dictated that a total of 10 swimmers will be selected to represent Youth Team Scotland at the event. To be eligible for consideration, swimmers must achieve a time equal or faster than those listed in the following table. The times must be achieved either at this SNAGs meet, or at next month’s British World Championships Trials/National Championships.

Additionally, the eligible age categories for swimming in the Youth Games are 15-18 for males (born 1999/2000/2001/2002) and 14-17 for females (born 2000/2001/2002/2003).

Doubling up on her potential 200m butterfly CYG qualifying time, Keanna MacInnes also scored a consideration mark in the 100m distance of the same discipline. She touched in 1:00.81 to finish just .01 off of her own Scottish Junior Record set last month at the Arena Pro Swim in Indianapolis.

Scott McLay and Katie Robertson also snagged CYG consideration times before the meet was through. McLay’s 100m freestyle mark of 51.03 possibly earned him a roster spot, as did Robertson’s time of 1:10.43 in the 100m breaststroke. Nikki Miller touched in 2:03.76 to finish under the CYG consideration mark as well.

Aberdeen native Hannah Miley continued to conduct training race swims in the prelims on the final two days of the meet, racking up the following times:

200 IM – 2:18.52
100 Fly – 1:02.68
200 Free – 2:02.80
100 Breast – 1:12.25
