Day 2 of the Spring Sectional in Buffalo saw North Baltimore Aquatic Club maintain and expand their leads in the combined, men’s, and women’s standings. Eagle Swim Team is sitting in 2nd in all 3 standings as well.

The Friday final session kicked off with a great race in the women’s 200 free, where NBAC 16-year-old Shannon Conway won in 2:05.46, leading 15-year-old teammate Madeline Ryan (2:05.76) by 0.32 seconds. Conway was out in 1:00.88 and home in 1:04.56, while Ryan was out in 1:01.18 and back in 1:04.58. Conway was faster in prelims, where she swam a 2:04.78, and she has a personal best of 2:03.10 in the event. Meanwhile, Ryna entered the day with a personal best of 2:07.60, marking a considerable improvement for her on the day.

Conway found her way to the top of the podium again in the women’s 100 fly later in the session. She won the race in 1:02.17, touching 1st by well over a second. Conway holds a personal best of 1:00.88 in the event.

Another NBAC 15-year-old, Spencer Belbot, put up an impressive swim in the men’s 200 free. Belbot swam a 1:53.70, getting out to a 55.29 on the opening 100 and coming home in 58.41. He entered the day with a persoanl best of 1:55.11, then swam a 1:54.33 in prelims before putting up his 1:53.70 in finals.

Seneca Valley Swim Club 16-year-old Katie Bookwalter won the women’s 100 breast by 1.51 seconds, swimming a 1:13.36. The swim marks a career best for Bookwalter, taking more than half a second off her previous best of 1:13.98.

Annapolis Swim Club 18-year-old Grant Murphy won the men’s 100 breast in 1:04.19. The Virginia recruit blew away his career best of 1:06.98 with the swim. He was 30.61 on the first 50 of the race, and still managed to come home in 33.58. Murphy would then go on to win the men’s 400 IM as well, swimming a 4:24.67. That performance also marks a career best for the 18-year-old, taking a second off his previous mark of 4:25.52.

Eagle Swim Team 17-year-old Langston Duncan popped a 55.29 to win the men’s 100 fly. A Northwestern recruit, Duncan set his career best of 55.00 last summer.

Princeton’s Dakota Tucker, who competed at the Women’s NCAA Division I Championships last week in Federal Way, won the women’s 400 IM in 4:52.46 last night. She was a touch faster in prelims, where she clocked a 4:52.40. She was a bit off her personal best of 4:47.09, which she swam last April.

The 800 free was the relay of the day on Friday. Eagle Swim Team Inc. managed to pull out the win over NBAC in the women’s 800 free relay. Krysta Blaha (2:12.21), Zoe Weker (2:12.94), Grace Scharper (2:12.25), and Casey Zentz (2:10.63) combined for an 8:48.03, earning the win. NBAC was out ahead, seeing Madeline Ryan lead off in 2:08.92. Julia Rommel then split 2:13.23 on the 2nd leg, Ava Vercollone was 3rd in 2:09.80, and Emily Kellerman anchored in 2:16.65, putting the team into the finish 2nd with an 8:48.60.

NBAC wound up on top in the men’s 800 free relay, however. Daniel Branon (1:56.38), Jason Kellerman (1:56.68), Myles Koff (2:01.39), and Spencer Belbot (1:55.13) teamed up for a 7:49.58, winning the race by over 7 seconds.
