Vetsch Sets Record In 200 fly, DART Swimming Sweeps Titles At Roseville Speedo Sectionals

California freshman August Vetsch has had a good winter swimming the 200 butterfly, and that was on display at the Speedo Sectionals in Roseville, California a few weeks ago. 

Vetsch set a Sectional Record in the event, according to the results, coming in with a time of 1:44.22 to win one of his three individual titles. 

Vetsch also won the 100 fly in a personal best time of 46.36 and the 100 freestyle in a time of 43.48. He also was second in the 50 free (20.53).

On Jan. 31 in a dual meet against riva Stanford, Vetsch set a personal best in the 200 fly with a time of 1:43.94.

In the women’s competition, San Jose State senior Ela Freiman won three events to lead the way individually.

Freiman won the 200 butterfly in a personal best time of 1:59.40, the 200 individual medley in a personal best time of 2:00.38 and the 400 IM in a time of 4:17.44. She also finished 2nd in the 200 breaststroke in 2:16.49.

From the team perspective, Sacramento-based DART Swimming swept the combined, girls’ and boys’ titles. 

Other individual standouts were:

  • Ella Ackerman of DART Swimming finished in the top-5 in six events. She was second in the 400 IM (4:24.59) and 1000 free (10:12.64), third in the 200 fly (2:01.01), 500 free (4:53.22) and 200 free (1:50.14), and fourth in the 200 IM (2:03.66). Her times in each event except the 400 IM were personal bests. 
  • Cal freshman Thackston McMullan controlled the middle distance freestyle events in the men’s competition, winning the 200 free (1:35.82) and the 500 free (4:22.40). He was also second in the 100 free with a time of 43.91.
  • In the women’s event, Cameron Forbes of AC Swim Club won the 200 free in a personal best time of 1:49.23, and was second in the 100 free with a personal best time of 50.87. 
  • Also in the women’s event, Stella Canoles of Orinda Aquatics won the 50 free in a time of 23.02 and the 100 free in a time of 46.69. She was also second in the 200 fly in 1:59.94, which was a personal best. 
  • In the men’s  event, Emi Zamudio of DART Swimming won the 200 back in a time of 1:45.11 and was second in the 100 back with a time of 48.32.
