Versatile Sam Lucas Verbally Commits to Utah for 2020-21

Sam Lucas from Keller, Texas has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Utah for 2020-21. The USA Swimming Scholastic All-American is a senior at Keller High School. He swims for Lakeside Aquatic Club.

Lucas was an A-finalist in both the 200 IM (8th with 1:53.72) and 100 back (5th with 50.67) at the 2019 Texas UIL 6A (largest schools) State Championships last February. He swam at Winter Juniors West in the 200 back and 200/400 IM and he time-trialed the 200 fly. He had a huge meet at College Station Sectionals in March, finaling in the 100/2MM back, 100 breast, and 200 fly and earning PBs in the 100y back, 100m back, 200y back, 100y breast, 100m breast, 200y fly, and 400y IM. All in all, he went best SCY times in the 500 free, 50/100/200 back, 100/200 breast, 200 fly, and 200/400 IM during his junior year of high school. This summer he competed at Speedo Junior Nationals in the 100 back, 200 back and 200 fly and time-trialed the 200 IM. He finished the meet with new times in the 200 back and 200 IM.

Lucas will join Dylan Becker in the Utes’ class of 2024. He would have scored in the C finals of the 200 back and 400 IM at 2019 Pac-12 Men’s Championships. It took 1:50.23 to get a second swim in the 200 IM.
