U.S. Masters Swimming (USMS) has announced details for its 13 national championships for the 2021 calendar year. The highlights are the Spring National Championship in short course yards, which will be held April 29th-May 2nd in Greensboro; and the Summer Nationals, which will run from August 5th-8th at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio (near Cleveland).

Both pools have experience hosting Masters National Championship events, though both facilities have undergone substantial changes since then. Greensboro, which has hosted 2 previous Spring Nationals events, recently wrapped an $8.2 million renovation to add a 4th pool. The facility now has two 50-meter pools, a 25-yard diving well, and a therapeutic pool. That extended pool capacity will serve Nationals and the 2,000 expected participants well as one of the largest meets in the country.

The SPIRE Institute, meanwhile, is currently for sale, leaving some uncertainty about the future vision of the multi-sport training complex. SPIRE also played host to the long course USMS National Championship event in 2015 and is scheduled to host the 2020 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships.

Cleveland has been getting taken care of pretty well these last couple years. Since my return to the pool and starting in triathlons, we have had two Triathlon Age Group National Championships, and now we will have back to back summers with Master’s Swimming National Championships.

To bad that pool, which is awesome, is so far away from Cleveland…..

They are building/built a couple hotels 5 minutes away, so that helps a bit of the problem.
