University College Dublin Tops Irish Inter-Varsities Swimming C’ships

The annual Irish Inter-Varsities Swimming Championships were held at Dublin City University last weekend where University College Dublin (UCD) merged victories in both the overall men’s and women’s competitions. Over the course of the two-day competition, UCD accumulated 98.5 points for the women and 97 points for the men, with a collective total of 207.5 exceeding runner-up University of Limerick (UL). Dublin settled for 3rd place in the overall team pursuit.

Individual UCD winners in the short course meters competition included 19-year-old Natasha-lim Low who was victorious in the women’s 100m breaststroke in a time of 1:18.84, while teammate Kevin McGlade earned the win in the men’s 50m freestyle. Shauna O’Brien scored the 200m IM victory with her 2:27.25 swim followed by Alex Murphy notching the 100m butterfly win in 58.40.

Relays-wise, the UCD women topped the podium in the 200m medley relay, collectively earning a time of 2:02.68. The women’s 200m freestyle relay also came out on top, touching in 1:53.59 for gold. Full results can be viewed below.
