New Hampshire started night with victories in the first 3 swimming events, but it wasn’t enough to keep their lead over the 2015 defending champions UMBC.

In the first event of the night, it was New Hampshire’s Brittany Driscoll who took the victory in the 400 IM, finishing in 4:21.47, ahead of her teammate Bridget Miller, who finished 3rd in 4:25.75 and 2nd place finisher, UMBC’s Laura Massicotte 4:23.28.

Coming off of a win in the 500 free last night, New Hampshire’s Jess Harper took her 2nd individual victory of the meet in the 100 fly, finishing in 55.85, just splits ahead of Amanda Day of UMBC and Selina Ng of Binghampton who finished in a 2nd place tie with a time of 55.95.

In the 200 free, it was New Hampshire yet again, this time with a 1-2 sweep. Touching first was sophomore Liza Baykova who finished in NCAA ‘B-cut’ time of 1:47.68, ahead of teammate Brittany Moffatt (1:51.03) and Vermont’s Sarah Mantz (1:51.14).

Junior Emily Escobedo also took her second individual victory of the championships, leading her team to a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100 breast. She touched the pads in the final in NCAA ‘B-cut’ and record time of 1:00.05, improving her conference and school record time done in prelims this morning (1:00.12). Finishing behind her were teammates Kayla Lilly (1:02.86) and Madyson Popalis (1:04.65).

The Retrievers took another two victories for the night, when junior Lauren Day won the 100 back in 55.82, ahead of New Hampshire’s Linnea Lemerise (56.48) and Vermont’s Kira Hancock (56.68), and when Coco Darelius scored the highest points on the 3m boards (261.00).

With UMBC having a strong showing in the 100 stroke events, it was no surprise when they dominated the 400 medley relay, the A team of Day, Escobedo, Day and Kristie Langford clocked in in 3:44.40, more than 3 seconds ahead of 2nd place finishers New Hampshire (3:47.94).

After day 3, UMBC now leads with 626 points, New Hampshire 2nd with 588.5 points and Vermont 3rd with 446 points.
