SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The University of Massachusetts men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept Bryant on Saturday afternoon, highlighted by nine first-place finishes for the Minutewomen and six first-place finishes for the Minutemen.
On The Podium
Emma Petrovich swept both women’s dives on the day, claiming first in both the 1m (247.80) and 3m (256.95) dives. Shreeya Sinha took third place in the 3m dive with a score of 220.05. The Minutewomen swept the podium in the 200-yard individual medley, with Anna Kwon claiming first (2:10.25), and teammates Jane Denenberg (2:15.76) and Olivia Mozoki (2:16.74) following in second and third places, respectively. In the 200-yard medley relay, the team of Megan Mitchell, Maggie Desmond, Summer Pierce, and Caroline Mahoney took first in 1:48.10, while the team of Bri Williams, Mozoki, Ashley Calderon, and Kirsten Ardis captured third in 1:51.67. Beatriz Olivieri (1:57.08) and Denenberg (1:58.92) took second and third place in the 200-yard freestyle, respectively, and Bella Snyder claimed third place in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:06.23. Desmond also took second place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.95. In the 200-yard backstroke, K. Ardis (2:11.80) and Mckenna Johnson (2:12.19) secured second and third places, respectively. Lauren Long picked up a third-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:33.74) and Denenberg took second in the 500-yard freestyle (5:17.66). Minutewomen captured second and third places in both the 100-yard backstroke (Megan Mitchell (57.75) and Williams (59.74)) and the 100-yard butterfly (Pierce (58.34) and Calderon (59.83)) on the day. Pierce was also runner-up in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:09.79. The 200-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Olivieri, Calderon, Dylan Moulton, and Williams took third place in 1:41.24.
The Minutemen swept the 1m dive podium, with Andrew Bell taking first (299.18), Thomas Cotner capturing second (277.58), and Sean O’Dell claiming third (257.40). Cotner also won the 3m dive (289.35), with Bell following in second (270.60). Massachusetts also swept the 100-yard breaststroke, as Jack Artis took first in 59.14, with Sam Haddad (1:00.22) and Freddie Borg (1:00.80) taking second and third places, respectively. The 200-yard medley relay team, consisting of Noah Witt, J. Artis, Grant Beebe, and Sammy Quigg, was the runner-up, swimming the event in 1:36.20, while the team of Beau Bengston, Borg, Jamie MacDonald, and Juan Montori swam to third in 1:37.34. Haddad took second in the 200-yard individual medley (1:58.13) and Witt took third in the 100-yard backstroke (53.24). The Minutemen took both second and third places in five events: 50-yard freestyle (Quigg (22.11) and Beebe (22.15)), 100-yard freestyle (Charles Blanc (48.57) and Quigg (48.78)), 200-yard backstroke (Witt (1:56.94) and Eric Eastham (1:57.49)), 100-yard butterfly (Jake Bailey (52.98) and Beebe (53.01)), and 500-yard freestyle (Emerson Kiefer (4:51.83) and Dubois (4:52.91)). J. Artis swam to second place in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:12.26, while teammate Eastham did the same in the 200-yard freestyle, swimming a time of 1:45.92. The 200-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Kiefer, Bailey, Colby Vieira, and Dubois recorded a third-place finish in 1:29.65. Meanwhile, Dubois recorded a time of 10:04.44 in the 1,000-yard freestyle, good for second place, and Haddad took second in the 200-yard individual medley in 1:58.13.
Top Finishes
Mahoney won both the 50-yard freestyle (24.59) and the 100-yard freestyle (53.19), while teammate Kwon was victorious in the 200-yard butterfly, swimming a time of 2:07.54. Mozoki captured first place in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:28.18. Meanwhile, Olivieri took first in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:11.22 and Desmond won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.74. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Desmond, K. Artis, Megan Mitchell, and Mahoney won the event with a time of 1:37.75.
MacDonald captured first in the 200-yard butterfly in 1:56.41, as well as in the 200-yard individual medley in 1:57.91. Haddad took first in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:10.81 and Kiefer was victorious in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:45.22. The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Beebe, Montori, Blanc, and Quigg swam to first in 1:26.94.
Team Results
The Minutemen defeated Bryant by a score of 170 to 130, while the Minutewomen bested Bryant by a score of 182 to 118.
Next Up
UMass will hit the road on Friday, Jan. 20 and Saturday, Jan. 21 as they head to the Tate Ramsden Invitational at Dartmouth.

SMITHFIELD, R.I./AMHERST, Mass.- The Bryant swimming and diving teams celebrated Senior Day on Sunday, competing on both the men’s and women’s sides against Massachusetts. The Bulldogs fell in both, 170-130 (men) and 182-118 (women).
Griffin Lajoie was Bryant’s top swimmer on the day, winning three individual events and a relay. Alex Rowson, Conner Lofstrom, Leo Luna, and Reagan Lord each won a pair of events for the Bulldogs, who took a combined 16 victories in the meet.

Bulldog Notes and Notables

Bryant’s first win came in the men’s 200 medley relay, as Lajoie, Rowson, Lofstrom, and Roman San Juan combined on a time of 1:35.76.

Lajoie would pick up individual event wins in the 100 back (51.34), 200 back (1:54.00), and 100 fly (52.95).

The Bulldogs earned their first event sweep in the 1000 free, as Makayla Pearce (10:49.23) and Leo Luna (9:44.43) each took first.

Jill Carline took first place in the 200 free with a time of 1:56.09.

Lord combined with Lajoie for an event sweep in the 100 back winning with a time of 57.25. They would repeat the feat in the 200, where Lord hit the wall at 2:07.08.

Lofstrom won the 50 free in a photo finish, swimming a time of 22.10, .01 seconds ahead of the Minutemen’s Sammy Quigg.

Rowson won the 100 free, swimming a time of 48.01.

Luna took his second win of the day in the 500 free with a time of 4:46.70.

Julia Stenhard won the 100 fly with a time of 57.92, combining with Lajoie for the Bulldogs’ fourth event sweep of the meet.
What’s next: Bryant will hit the road in two weeks when they travel south to take on Marist on January 21.
