JACKSONVILLE, FL – Tulane’s Swimming and Diving team picked up a pair victories Saturday in its tri-meet with North Florida and Little Rock at the UNF Competition Pool Complex in Jacksonville.

The Green Wave defeated UNF 294.5 to 170.5 and took down Little Rock 274 to 190.

The second day of competition brought eight victories and 23 top-five finishes.

TU’s Victoria Raymond set her second school record in as many days with a time of 1:58.25 in the 200 Fly, just ahead of teammate Andrea Zeebe.

Freshman Gwen Shahboz killed it at her first meet as a member of the Green Wave. She emerged victorious in the 200 IM and the 200 Breast with times of 2:07.28 and 2:19.15, respectively. Her 200 Breast time put her eighth all-time in the school’s records.

Natalia Strongyli picked up her first win of the season in the 100 IM (59.38 seconds) and took second in the 200 IM.

Ece Tanriverdi (17:29.25) came out on top in the 1650 Free, while teammate Sydney Mullin took third.

In the 200 Back, Tulane swept the top three spots, courtesy of Grace Dale’s win (2:05.82), just ahead of Shahboz and Reese Dunkenberger.

The Green Wave also won the 200 Medley Relay (Zeebe, Raymond, Paula Gaya Bisquerra and Dale) in 1:47.42, while Raymond, Dale, Dunkenberger and Riley Hendrix placed second in the 200 Free Relay.

Hendrix (second) and Olcaytu Hatipoglu (third) both captured top three finishes in the 100 Free.

“Our women were amazing start to finish with the energy they brought to the pool,” said head coach Amanda Caldwell. “We had some ‘dirty doubles’ and quick turnarounds throughout the meet weekend, and they each took that challenge well. There was a lot of racing into the finishes from individuals we are used to seeing finish strong, and some who stepped up to get their hand on the wall faster than the women next to them. We loved their efforts and are excited to get back to work as a group to prepare for the next competition.”

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Trojans got things done at the two-day, three-team meet versus North Florida and Tulane this weekend, pulling away from the host team to secure second place as well as posting several impressive times in the thick of the season.

“I am really excited about what we accomplished this weekend,” said head coach Nathan Townsend. “We proved to ourselves that we can race at a high level in the midst of tough training. We had close to 20 personal bests this weekend, several season bests, and many even getting close to their suited times from last season.”

“This is great momentum for us as we move forward with our upcoming meets against Arkansas this Friday and then Saint Louis Henderson State for Parent’s Weekend,” he added. “This is just the start of a special season.”

COFFEY TALK
“This was a very exciting meet, it came down to the last relay against Little Rock. Our stroke groups stepped up this weekend. Victoria Torres and Ashley Kirby had strong swims in the 200 and 100 breaststroke. Everyone played a part and we are only getting better. It was good to spread out the meet over two days to swim events we don’t usually race.  Time to focus on our next meet and keep training hard this week.”— Head Coach Ian Coffey
