Towson, Md – The Towson University swimming and diving teams hosted the Howard Bison in the first home meet of 2025. The Tigers swept the meet with the men’s team winning 152-91 and the women’s team winning 174-67.

How it happened (Women):

  • Towson swept the podium in both diving events. Shannon Parrau won the 1 meter dive scoring 266.25 and the 3 meter dive scoring 250.50. Parrau was the only women’s diver to score more then 250 in either event.
  • Abby O’Leary placed second in both the 1 meter (245.92) and the 3 meter (222.93).
  • Danielle McCarthy swam a 10:46.27 in the 1000 Free to win the event.
  • Claire Ryland (24.10) won the 50 Free with Bjartey Gudmundsdottir (24.89) placing third
  • Riley Willett took first place in the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.87.
  • Britney Denny (2:09.38), Laura Gaffney (2:09.55) and Bella Brennan (2:11.18) took the top three spots in the 200 Fly.
  • Madison Neal (2:04.93) won the 200 Back with Dylan Gustaff (2:06.77) placing second.
  • Bridget Thomas took first in the 500 Free by almost ten seconds with a time of 5:11.29, Summer Bontrager placed second.
  • Ellie Newman (2:25.37), Denny (2:26.49) and Tink Tompkins (2:27.83) took the top three spots in the 200 Breast.
  • The team of Ryland, Gudmundsdottir, Willett and Marissa won the 200 Free Relay with a time of 1:36.51.

How it happened (Men):

  • Sam Tennell swept the diving events winning the 1 meter dive with a score of 242.92, and the 3 meter dive with a score of 304.72. Tennell was the only male diver to score over 250 in either event.
  • The team of Sean ColsonGeoffrey CradockCarson Bauer and Luke Schwar won the 400 Medley relay with a time of 3:25.61.
  • Teddy Ament took first in the 1000 Free with a time of 9:55.11.
  • Daniel McLaughlin (21.47), Luke Schwar (21.56) and Julian Najarro (21.66) swept the podium in the 50 Free.
  • David Walton (1:58.79) won the 200 IM with Linus Ament (1:59.49) coming in second.
  • Anthony Mortellite finished first the 200 Fly with a time of 1:53.72.
  • Colson took first in the 200 Back posting a time of 1:51.65.
  • Mortellite won the 500 Free by almost eleven seconds with a time of 4:45.49.
  • Schwar, Najarro, Stephen McDonald, and McLaughlin closed the meet with a 200 Free Relay win posting a 1:24.80 time.

Next Up:
The Tigers are right back in Burdick three days from now for Senior Day, Towson hosts Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) rival Drexel. Dives will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by the senior day ceremony, with the swimming events immediately after.

TOWSON, Md. (January 15, 2025) – Howard University women’s swimming & diving squad fell on the road at Towson, 174-67.

Despite the loss, HU secured three wins in the midweek dual.

Junior Zuilda Nwaeze led the charge with a pair of victories in the 100 Free (51.32) and 200 Free (1:53.56).

Nwaeze, senior Zaylie-Elizabeth Thompson (Nassau, Bahamas), junior Samyra Benoit (Santa Clarita, Calif.) and sophomore Chanice Posada (Houston) came away victorious in the 400 Medley Relay, clocking in at 3:52.29.

Individually, Thompson placed third overall in the 200 IM, recording a 2:10.82 mark.

Other noteworthy individual performances included rookie Gabrielle Vickles (El Dorado, Trinidad & Tobago) earning silver in the 50 Free (24.86) and third-year Bison Kali Garcia claiming bronze in the 500 Free (5:28.18).

Saturday (Jan. 18), HU gears up for a quad meet in Lexington, Va., hosted by VMI. First race starts at 1 p.m.

TOWSON, Md. (January 15, 2025) – Howard University men’s swimming & diving team came up short in its return to the pool, falling at Towson, 152-91.

Despite the setback, HU had three victories in Wednesday’s dual meet.

Senior Tai Afrik (Holland, Mich.) took home gold in the 100 Free, clocking in at 47.51.

Fellow classmate Erald Thompson III (Nassau, Bahamas) placed first in the 200 Breast (2:13.71). Rookie Mark Brown (Greensboro, N.C.) also competed in the event, earning bronze with a 2:14.69 mark.

Second-year Bison Mason Green (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) won the 200 Free (1:42.97).

On the board, senior Zay Swilley (Bradley, Ill.) had a pair of second-place finishes in the 1-meter (241.88) and 3-meter (240.97) dives.

Saturday (Jan. 18), HU gears up for a quad meet in Lexington, Va., hosted by VMI. First race starts at 1 p.m.
