In this week on the SwimSwam Breakdown, the Olympics are over and ISL season 3 is coming in hot. Here are this week’s top stories:
- For ISL season 3, several athletes across the league will only be partial participants in the 2021 regular season and/or miss it altogether, most notably the Cali Condors’ Caeleb Dressel. Load management has officially reached swimming.
- FINA has finalized its 2021 Swimming World Cup calendar, which will feature 4 legs in Europe and the Middle East. Those dates represent 4 of the original 6 cities announced. August stops in Jinan, China and Singapore were already announced as canceled in May.
- The ACC, Big Ten and Pac-12 announced their alliance on Tuesday after news of the three Power Five NCAA conferences joining forces in some capacity was reported last week.
- Pleasanton Seahawks head coach Steve Morsilli has received a public reprimand from the Pacific Swimming LSC after an incident that involved him throwing a cone at an athlete mid race.
- Former NCAA, United States, and International Swimming League coach Jonty Skinner is now coaching youth soccer at the Academy girls group at Tuscaloosa United Soccer Club, consisting of around 33 players ages 7-10. He also coaches a 15 & under girls competitive team.
- Megan Oesting will become the new head coach at Bend Swim Club after parting ways with SwimMAC Carolina earlier in the summer. The club, located in Bend, Oregon, is a nonprofit, board-governed organization.
There was a swimswam article about how Popovici is not swimming for the breakers- pretty sure the Breakers announced on Instagram that David was part of the roster (and Popovici acknowledged it)
I think Popovici is just missing for the regular season? Perhaps Swimswam can confirm?
He’ll join the 2nd stage
That’s correct, as far as we’ve been told by NYB head coach/GM Martin Truijens.
Looking at the rosters, though, it’s going to take a big effort for the Breakers to make the post-season.
Yes, looks like a last place finish coming up.
Yui Ohashi was 100% not in the draft pool, why is she now flying to Italy to race for Tokyo??? Thats the definition of cheating?
I’m also confused.
So one of Tokyo’s key player just didn’t enter the draft pool so no team could draft her. And then she’s signed by Tokyo again through free agency? What’s the point of the drafting if this is allowed?
It was stink a bit but if I remember right Tokyo didn’t retain the full number of swimmers before the draft so could’ve retained Ohashi.
*does stink.
Bad editing.
Change of subject – case against Brenton Rickard (Australian breastroker) from a sample from London 2012 has been dropped. He’s left with a $50000 bill.
Absolutely loving this format!
The real question is when is SwimSwam taking a break? You guys have been on a roll!
….no sleep… 😐🥇
Upvote for SwimSwam, downvote for Brett Hawke
Just here to say Dressel looks STACKED in that cover shot
Sweet baby Jesus that cover picture
…oh, that’s Braden… He’s back in the pool now 🤓
