SwimSwam Podcast: Sydney Pickrem on Adapting Through Adversity

On SwimSwam Podcast, we’re giving you an in-depth listen at all things swimming. Host Coleman Hodges welcomes guests and guest co-hosts alike to get perspective on our ever-changing swimming universe and break down the past, present, and future of aquatic sports.

We sat down with Sydney Pickrem, one of the most decorated swimmers in Canadian history. She gives a candid recollection of her career, starting in Florida where she was a product of Randy Reese, renowned coach in his own right as well as brother to Texas Men’s head coach, Eddie.

She evolved to the international stage and in 2017, won her first LC world championship medal in the 400 IM. That came, however, after Pickrem exited the pool after the fly leg of the 200 IM, where she choked on water. Pickrem talks us through that worlds and more, the ups and down of her career, and how she’s grown from each one of them.
