Swimmers React To The Addition Of Stroke 50s At The Olympics: Social Media Edition

Earlier today, World Aquatics announced the addition of the stroke 50s for the 2028 LA Olympics. This means that the 50 back, 50 breast, and 50 fly will join the Olympic program.

Some athletes have taken to social media displaying their excitement about the decision. Great Britain’s Adam Peaty confirmed he will look to attend the LA Games.

Sarah Sjostrom (Sweden): “All 50s are finally being added to the Olympic program! Best news ever for the swimming world. 🌍 🏊🏼‍♀️💥”

Kyle Chalmers of Australia commented on Sjostrom’s post: “🔥 Epic”

Michael Andrew (USA): “Today marks the greatest day of my sporting career! 50s of stroke will be added to the 2028 LA Olympic Games!
This is a day I thought would never come in my career, and I’m very fortunate to be able to compete in this incredible era of swimming! The growth these additions will bring to the sport of swimming will be huge! Let’s go”

Shaine Casas (USA) replied in a comment: “Swimming until we’re 50”

Olivia Smoliga (USA): “omggg!”

Adam Peaty (Great Britain) on his Instagram story: “Huge huge huge news, I’ll be there.”

In his Instagram post: “50m Sprint Events have just been added to @la28games which confirms my attempt to be at my Fourth Olympic Games. This is the best result for our incredible sport and will allow more people to be part of it and stay in it much longer. Thank you @world_aquatics for this amazing decision.

I’ve got a good feeling about these next three years 🏆”

Zane Grothe was a distance freestyler.

Andrii Govorov posted on his Instagram feed as well as his story. He said “I waited it all my life” on his story while his post was captioned “All my life I was hunting that World Record, I was craving for that speed and I got it.
But I never had a chance to compete my masterpiece at Olympics, always tried to grind that 50 free, today everything’s changed: @olympics added 50m strokes at their @la28games program.

Dreams coming true.”

Italy’s Thomas Ceccon seemed to not like the decision, posting thumbs down on his Instagram story.

Are they going to expand the roster size for this this? If not we will definitely see way more the “relay” qualifiers in limbo and prob not actually make the team.
I also think these events should be swim skins style ….that would be fun.

It’s hard to believe today is a better day in Michael Andrew’s sporting career than when he made the Olympic team or won a gold medal, but ok.
