ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Sophomores Silvana Cabrera and Ellie Kraus each secured two event victories to help the St. Bonaventure University women’s swimming and diving team to a 159-82 win over Canisius Saturday afternoon.
The Bonnies notched a total of 11 event victories Saturday afternoon.
Prior to and during the meet, both the men’s and women’s teams sold lime green gear to promote Lyme Disease awareness. All proceeds from the gear is being donated to the Lyme Disease Foundation.
On the diving board, freshman Sanayia Joefield earned her first collegiate victory in the 3-meter dive with a score of 223.20.
The 200-medley relay team of Cabrera, Allison Lenda, Beth Thomas, and Halle Myers scored a victory with a time of 1:47.07. Also, the team of Kathryn Beyer, Paris Christie, Maggie Metcalf, Rylie Foley finished with a time of 1:52.44 to place second.
Cabrera delivered an event victory in the 200-IM with a time of 2:11.83, while Thomas placed third in this event (2:15.95).
The Lima, Peru native captured another victory, touching the wall in a time of 56.95 in the 100-butterfly. Myers finished right behind her teammate with a time of 57.39.
In the 200-freestyle, Kraus picked up her first victory of the afternoon (57.39). She earned the top spot in the 100-freestyle with a time of 52.15, while Amy O’Rourke finished with a time of 53.30.
Myers got in to the winning ways with a victory in the 50-freestyle (23.80), finishing ahead of O’Rourke (24.62).
Freshman Nele Vetter secured her first collegiate victory in the 1000-freestyle, swimming a time of 11:13.98. Fellow freshman Kathryn Beyer was victorious in the 500-freestyle (5:26.37), while Vetter finished right behind her teammate (5:30.25).
The afternoon was capped off by victories from Lenda in the 100-backstroke (58.45) and Thomas in the 100-breaststroke (1:08.63).
The Bonnies’ divers will compete in the UB diving invitational on Jan. 13-15, while the swimmers will be off until Jan. 21 when they travel to Binghamton following the holidays. The meet is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.

ST. BONAVENTURE, N.Y. – Four different Bonnies scored event victories for the St. Bonaventure University men’s swimming and diving team to propel the team to a 155-88 victory over Little Three Rival Canisius Saturday afternoon in the Reilly Center Pool.
On Saturday afternoon, Bona’s scored a total of nine event victories.
Prior to and during the meet, both the men’s and women’s teams sold lime green gear to promote Lyme Disease awareness. All proceeds from the gear is being donated to the Lyme Disease Foundation.
Ben Giera and Lucas Dekaney notched top two finishes on the diving board for St. Bonaventure. Giera notched a victory in the 1-meter dive (286.88), while Dekaney was victorious with a score of 317.48 in the 3-meter dive.
The 200-medley relay team of Henry Wilkes, Nicholas Nakaya, Alexander Behr, and Kyle Gluck kicked off Saturday afternoon with a time of 1:34.22 to earn a win. The team of Luigi Termine, Michael Pietrucha, Tommy White, and Zachary Titus finished second with a time of 1:35.61.
Junior Maxwell Murray secured a victory in the 1000-freestyle (9:45.47) and 100-backstroke (51.01). Murray would go on to place second with a time of 4:47.36 in the 500-freestyle.
Behr delivered an individual win in the 200-freestyle, touching the wall in a time of 1:43.55. Senior Tomas Botero finished third with a time of 1:46.42 in the race.
In the 100-butterfly, Behr earned another victory with a time of 49.99. Junior Tommy White registered a time of 52.11 to finish right behind his teammate.
Junior Kyle Gluck swam a time of 21.44 to secure a victory for the Bonnies. Teammate Patrick Heldreth placed second in this event (21.84).
Heldreth notched another second-place finish in the 100-freestyle (47.94).
In the 200-IM, Nakaya touched the wall in a time of 1:57.36 for individual victory. Freshman Boray Goren finished with a time of 2:00.03 to earn a third-place finish.
To finish Saturday afternoon, Nakaya and Teddy Murphey placed second and third in the 100-breaststroke, respectively.
The Bonnies are off until after the holidays when the divers compete at the UB diving invitational on Jan. 13-15, while the swimmers will be off until Jan. 21 when they travel to Binghamton. The meet is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.

Graduate student Liam O’Connell garnered a pair of top finishes and both 200 freestyle relays earned the top spot as the Canisius men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams closed out the 2022 calendar year against Little Three rival St. Bonaventure Saturday afternoon in the Reilly Center Pool in Olean, N.Y. in collegiate swimming and diving action.
The Bonnies defeated the Golden Griffins on both sides, picking up a 155-88 win for the men and a 159-82 victory for the women’s squad.
Graduate student Adriana Bolender earned the best score in the 1-meter dive, picking up a score of 237.45. Bolender also finished in second place in the 3-meter diving with a score of 210.83.
O’Connell was the first to touch the wall in both the 100 and 500 free events, finishing with times of 47.77 and 4:45.71, respectively.
Freshman Eric Kim finished first in the 100 breast, swimming a time of 58.65.
Both the men’s and women’s 200 free relays picked up the top spot. The quartet of sophomore Ben Yant, senior Adam Sokolowski, Kim and senior Alex Hiltbrand posted a time of 1:26.93.
On the women’s side, freshman Hannah Brainard, sophomore Ashley Allaire, junior Jordan O’Connor and senior Grace Van Buren finished with an event-best 1:40.81.

• Canisius will return to the pool for the first time in 2023 when it hosts Cleveland State on Jan. 15. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. from the Burt Flickinger Center in downtown Buffalo.
