Ryan Lochte, First Impressions Video

Eleven-time Olympic medalist, Ryan Lochte, is out there, pitching, selling and generally enjoying his Olympic celebrity. It’s clear he’s enjoying himself, and he’s back in the pool prepping for the first USA Swimming Minneapolis Grand Prix. The swim fans and the swimming community as a whole has to be happy about that.

This latest ad is from advertising giant, TBWA/Chiat/Day, and I think it hits the mark, though, after showing it to friends, a few feel like it’s a little stilted. I think it works with the roses, silk robe and surf shorts. You be judge. Here’s the video:

Thanks, Mel. I really think that Lochte and his management are doing are nice job promoting his brand post Olympics. I am not saying he is a great actor but lets celebrate a swimmer who is getting some main stream exposure and a nice pay check.

Stop hating Ryan! What’s your problem with this guy? He’s an Olympic gold medalist and a great athlete so respect him!

Why doesn’t he swim in the world cup? This competition has a big lack of great swimmers and the overall level is average. He’s so good in short course. He could earn many dollars too.

Bobo. It would be great to see him at the World Cup events but the winnings are really only a few thousand at a time not too mention the money it costs to travel the world. He can do much better at home making commercials and appearances. The incentive really does not seem to be there for the super star swimmers yet,

My theory about Lochte is that he tries so hard to come off as cool and laid back that he just ends up looking stilted and dumb. Just be yourself, man! If I’m wrong and that IS being yourself, then you’re in trouble….
