Rio 2016 Day 3 Scratch Report: Coventry Scratches 200 IM Prelims

2016 RIO OLYMPIC GAMES

On day 3 prelims of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, we’ll see swimmers compete in the 200 free and 200 IM on the women’s side, and the 200 fly on the men’s side. Prelims will start at 1:00 pm Brazil local time, 12:00 pm Eastern, 11:00 am Central.

Vietnam’s Vien Nguyen has scratched prelims of the women’s 200 free. The Vietnamese Record holder had initially entered the meet in this event with a 1:59.27. She will, however, be swimming the 200 IM at the end of today’s session.

Zimbabwe’s Kirsty Coventry has opted out of the 200 IM today, where she was entered with a 2:12.29. Coventry, a former World Record holder, placed 6th in this race at the last Olympic Games in London.

Also scratching the 200 IM this morning were France’s Lara Grangeon (2:12.68) and Israel’s Amit Ivri (2:15.77).

SwimSwam earlier reported that Singapore’s Joseph Schooling would be dropping the 200 fly in favor of the 100 free to give himself a lighter schedule before the 100 fly later in the week. Other than Schooling, there were no scratches for this morning’s 200 fly.
