Rick Curl, the former elite swim coach of the Curl Burke Swim Club in the Washington DC area, has formally plead guilty in a Fairfax, Virginia court today. This follows-through on a consent-to-plea agreement entered in January.

He has plead guilty to one count of sexual abuse of a minor after Kelley Currin alleged that she was abused by Curl as young as 13 by Curl in the 1980’s.

Curl will be sentenced on May 23rd, and can receive a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison. Curl is out on bond until the sentencing.

The plea eliminates what was likely to be a long and drawn-out trial that would try to call and sift-through evidence that was decades old. In the late 80’s, Currin’s family signed a non-disclosure agreement with Curl, where Currin’s family received $150,000 in exchange for not pressing charges on any allegations of sexual abuse or speaking publicly about it.

“Curl has been banned his life is in ruins, leave him alone..”

REALLY!?!

I wonder why his life is in ruins, could it be that he had a sexual relationship with a minor?

Leave him alone? I think he lost that privilege when he stole Currin’s innocence…

I agree, Curl has been banned his life is in ruins, leave him alone..in my eyes Pliuskaitis is more of a predator than Rick Curl, Just because no criminal charges were ever filled on him, this is a coach who lost a criminal case in Canada for swimmer abuse,(so he came to coach in the US) maybe some one should start taking a good look at SNOW…..

How come comments are open on stories about Curl but close on stories about Pliuskaitis? I think the same kind of respect should be shown to Curl’s family as well…
