The Pullman High School girls walked away with six event wins en route to winning the WIAA 2A State Championship crown.
The Greyhounds got on the board right away with the first victory of the day, winning the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:52.89. Pullman dropped 1.4 seconds from their preliminary time to seal the win.
Led by freshman Abby Adams, the school’s relay led from the jump, with Adams splitting 28.22 on the opening leg. Senior Madi Weber kept the team rolling with a 31.32 split on the second leg, maintaining a 2-second lead over the field. Freshman Nelly Peng split 27.64 on butterfly, and was able to touch the wall just before Ava Gruner of Sammamish, who split 25.87 to bring her relay back into the mix.
Pullman’s Melrose Gilbert entered the water just a tenth of a second clear of Sammamish’s Hanna Rhodes and then dropped a quick 25.71 split to secure Pullman’s victory in a time of 1:52.89.
Steilacoom senior Alejandra Ruppe won two individuals on the day, claiming the 200 freestyle (1:55.87) and 100 backstroke (57.30).
In the 200 free, Ruppe cleared her heat by three full seconds, while the 100 back victory came by four seconds.

Sammamish’s Ava Gruner also picked up two events wins in the 200 IM (2:08.87) and 100 butterfly (57.35), with the 200 IM title by coming by close to five seconds.
Mya Reed also claimed two victories on the day for Pullman, topping the 50 and 100 freestyle. Reed bested the field by over half a second in the 50 Free, finishing in a time of 24.61. Reed was the only swimmer under the 25-second mark, with Fife senior Madalyn Rohrer finishing second with a time of 25.27.
In the 100 free, Reed took the early lead over Caelee Truong and never looked back, splitting 25.62/27.63 en route to a final time of 53.25. Truong closed in 28.50 and finished second in 54.41.
On the diving boards, Martina Klecka finished first on 1-meter with an overall score of 332.3. Klecka won by nearly 60 points and was the only diver whose score was over 300.
Back in the pool after diving, Poppy Edge took the win in the 500 freestyle in a time of 5:20.20, topping the field by nine seconds.
Pullman ended up on top again in the 200 free relay, finishing in a time of 1:41.33. The team of Poppy Edge, Medi Weber, Bree Myers, and Mya Reid would win the race by two seconds over ANAC to secure the second relay win of the day.
In the 100 breaststroke, Florence Lo and Milan Manfredi battled it out in a close race, with Manfredi taking a massive early lead, splitting 30.32 to Lo’s 31.74 on the first 50. However, it was Lo who would win the day, roaring home on the back half (34.86) to finish .19 ahead of Manfredi with a final time of 1:06.60.
Pullman would sweep the relays with the 4×100 free win, crushing the field by four seconds to claim the final event of the day. The team of Edge, Myers, Gilbert and Reed would finish with a total time of 3:42.19.
