WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The University of Pennsylvania women’s swimming and diving team claimed a mid-week matchup at West Chester on Wednesday evening, downing the Golden Rams 181-114 at Graham Natatorium.
The Quakers won 12 events and improved to 8-3 on the year with just one meet remaining in the regular season.
Kayla Fu, Amy Qin, and Vanessa Chong won two events each to lead Penn, while both Fu and Qin were a part of the victorious 200 medley relay.

*Fu took first place in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:51.62. Erica Maltsev placed second at 1:55.88 and Jenna Jacobs finished in third place at 1:56.58. Fu also emerged victorious in the 100 free, clocking a 51.97.
*Qin earned victories in both the 50 free (23.62) and 200 backstroke (2:03.97). Amber Smith (24.86) and Charlotte Holliday (2:08.08) placed third and second in the events, respectively.
*It was a first-place finish for Vanessa Chong in the 200 butterfly, clocking a 2:03.89, while Lily Zhang placed second at 2:06.33. She also took care of business in the 100 fly with a time of 56.47. Kate Levensten placed third at 57.85.
*The 200 medley relay, which featured Qin, Kate Handley, Fu, and Smith timed in at 1:44.38 to finish in first place.
*Sydney Bergstrom swam a time of 10:32.52 to place first in the 1000 free, narrowly beating out teammate Amelia Girotto (10:34.14) for second.
*Levensten won the 100 back with a time of 56.49, while Holliday took second place at 59.49.
*Zhang claimed her win in the 500 free with a time of 5:07.26. Katya Eruslanova placed second at 5:09.99.
*On the diving board, Madeleine Parker won the three meter with a score of 251.18. Rachel Yang placed second at 248.33, with Sophie Slayden (245.94) taking third and Sadie Howard (235.43) in fourth.
*Howard picked up a win in the one meter, scoring a 243.00. Slayden placed second at 225.83, with Yang (221.03) in third and Parker (220.20) fourth.
*Keara McGowan led a 2-3-4 finish for the Quakers in the 100 breaststroke, timing in at 1:07.06 to take second place. Handley finished third with a time of 1:07.10 and Abby Druhan earned a fourth-place finish at 1:07.41.
*Druhan also claimed second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:22.52.

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The University of Pennsylvania men’s swimming and diving team had a victory-filled mid-week meet at West Chester on Wednesday evening, defeating the Golden Rams 173-124 at Graham Natatorium.
The Quakers won 11 races against WCU, improving to 3-5 overall with just one meet remaining in the regular season.
James Curreri, Jeffrey Hou, and Cody Hopkins each won two events to pace Penn over West Chester.

*Curreri opened the meet with a win in the 200 freestyle, clocking a 1:41.70 to finish first. Daniel Gallagher placed second at 1:42.08 with Vinny Vinciguerra placing third at 1:42.89. Curreri also won the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:52.24, while Cooper Nicholson took second place at 1:54.01.
*Hou began his strong evening with a win in the 100 back, clocking a 50.17. Benji Ham placed third with a time of 51.82. Hou also proved to be victorious in the 100 fly with a time of 50.05. Alex Fu placed second at 50.72.
*On the boards, Cody Hopkins led the Quakers with a score of 300.30 in the one-meter dive, while Victor Dang took second at 240.90. Hopkins also won the three-meter dive with a score of 278.25, Dang placing second at 248.40.
*Hou, Watson Nguyen, Fu, and Xavier Hill clocked a 1:31.59 in the 200 medley relay to finish in first place. The quartet of Ham, Colin Zhang, John Lieberman, and Ryan McGuirk placed third at 1:34.11.
*Nguyen led a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 55.58. Peter Whittington placed second at 55.77 with Zhang coming in third (57.32).
*Zhang won a tight race in the 200 breast, clocking a 2:03.67. Neo Matsuyama had a time of 2:06.05 to finish second with Nguyen coming in third place (2:07.21).
*Matt Fallon’s time of 4:33.09 was good enough to finish first in the 500 free.
*Whittington finished with a time of 3:58.88 to touch the wall first in the 400 IM.
*Nicholson led a 2-3-4 finish in the 1000 free, taking second at 9:36.94. Andy Zhou placed third with a time of 9:51.08, while Truman Armstrong placed fourth at 9:54.91.
*McGuirk earned a second-place finish in the 100 free, timing in at 47.19.
*Can John Yeniay swam a time of 1:58.69 to take third place in the 200 fly.
*Fu placed third in the 50 free with a time of 21.33.

The Quakers conclude the regular season on Saturday against Harvard and Boston College in Cambridge, Mass. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- For the first time since December 6, the West Chester University women’s swimming and diving team was in action on Wednesday night against Ivy-league member the University of Pennsylvania. West Chester battled its guests from the City of Brotherly Love throughout the evening but fell to the Quakers by a 181-114 final in the midweek clash.
In diving action, West Chester was led by Alicia McHugh (Jenkintown, Pa./Abington) who picked up pair of fifth-place finishes off the three and one meter boards with scores of 210.98 and 204.23, respectively.
In the swimming pool, West Chester started its night with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay in a time of 1:48.57, while another quartet of Golden Rams placed third in one minute and 48.97 seconds.
Dani Stewart (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) started off the individual events for West Chester with a third-place finish in 10:39.88, before Bella Kil (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) turned in a fourth-place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:56.59.
Anna Evans (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) led West Chester in the 100 backstroke as the first of three Golden Rams in the top five in a time of 1:00.23 to place third, while Samantha Kil (Enola, Pa./East Pennsboro) and Allie DeFrehn (Mullica Hill, N.J./Clearview) were close behind in 1:00.43 and 1:01.12, respectively.
Madelyn Koehle (State College, Pa./State College) picked up the first event victory of the evening for West Chester in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.08. Koehle earned her second victory of the night a few minutes later in the 200 breaststroke as she touched the wall in 2:18.52 to outpace her competitor from Penn by four seconds. Lenya Ryan (Wilmington, Del./Mt. Pleasant) was third in this event in 2:25.08.
Susana Ungo-Quero (Madrid, Spain/Colegio Sagrada Familia) placed third in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:07.00 before finishing second in the 100 fly in 57.35 seconds.
Sam Trumble (Dallastown, Pa./Dallastown) turned in back-to-back second place finishes in the 50 and 100 free in times of 24.27 and 53.18 seconds, while Isabella Kil took third in the 100 free in 53.54 seconds.
DeFrehn led West Chester in the 200 back with a time of 2:10.16 to finish third, while Evans and Sam Heiland (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) were fourth and fifth in times of 2:12.21 and 2:12.26, respectively.
Rookie Ditta Kowalik (State College, Pa./State College) led West Chester in the 500 free with a time of 5:11.63 to finish third.
Ryan placed second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:41.16, while DeFrehn and Molly Hubal (Archbald, Pa./Valley View) were close behind in 4:47.65 and 4:49.04, respectively.
West Chester wrapped up its Wednesday evening clash with a second-place finish in the 200 free relay in 1:38.26.
West Chester will be back in action on Saturday morning against NYU beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday will also be Senior Day for the Golden Rams, so fans are encouraged to arrive early as Senior Day ceremonies are expected to commence around 10:50 a.m.
WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The West Chester University men’s swimming and diving team returned to action for the first time since early December against Ivy-League foe Penn inside Graham Natatorium and the Jenkins Aquatic Center on a frigid January evening. While temperatures outside hovered near single digits with remnants of the most recent winter storm remaining on the ground, the competition inside the West Chester aquatic facilities kept the home crowd warm and on its feet throughout the evening. West Chester battled throughout the night and claimed event victories in the 1000 free, 200 butterfly, 100 and 50 free but fell to the visiting Quakers by a 173-124 final on Wednesday.
West Chester started its evening with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay in a time of one minute and 32.54 seconds before Paul Demesy (Saint Ulrich, France) registered West Chester’s first event victory of the evening in 9:33.26 in the 1000 free.
Danny Dunigan (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) took fourth in the 200 free with a time of 1:43.92, while Dalton Fink (Pottsgrove, Pa./Owen J. Roberts) led West Chester in the 100 back with a second-place finish in 51.40 seconds.
Kai Hang (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) finished fourth in the 100 breastroke for West Chester, touching the wall in 57.96 before the Golden Rams went 1,2 in the 200 fly with Ben Desclous (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) touching the wall first in 1:55.53 followed by Joel Dunnigan (York, Pa./Dallastown) in second in 1:56.63.
Devin Metzger (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) and Nolan Benner (Green Lane, Pa./Boyertown) also went 1,2 in the 50 free in times of 20.67 and 21.24 to send West Chester to the first break of the evening with back-to-back event victories. In the first event out of the break, Metzger picked up another victory, this time winning the 100 free in 46.01 seconds, while Benner was a close third in 47.25 seconds.
Kolos Nagy (Szazhalombatta, Hungary) led the way in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:56.17 to finish third before Hang picked up his second fourth-place finish of the night in the 200 breaststroke in 2:08.09.
In the 500 free, Demesy stood toe-to-toe with Quaker Matthew Fallon, who was a member of the 2024 US Olympic Swimming team for much of the early going before finishing a close second to Fallon in 4:38.36. Dunnigan picked up another top-three finish in this event, finishing third in 4:44.37.
In the 100 butterfly, Fink was third in 51.22, while Brey Wright (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Central) touched the wall in fourth in 52.43 seconds.
West Chester took three of the top four spots in the 400 IM as Nagy, Desclous, and Aidan Faikish (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) finished second, third, and fourth in 4:13.68, 4:13.71, and 4:19.28, respectively.
West Chester ended its night in the Natatorium with a 1-2 finish in the 200 free relay in times of 1:23.41 and 1:30.13, respectively.
In the Ronn Jenkins Aquatic Center, West Chester was led by Boden Burkhart (Walnutport, Pa./Northampton) who finished third off the one-meter board with a score of 232.65 and second off the three-meter board with a score of 258.08. Tyler Czeiner (Doulgassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) took fourth on the one-meter board with a score of 221.78, while Michael Finlaw (Warrington, Pa./C.B. South) was fourth with a score of 189.90.
