The 2016 European Aquatic Championships are set to kick-off on next week in London with synchronized swimming and diving events starting on May 9th, while the competitive swimming portion begins on May 16th.
The wave of aquatic sessions are taking place at the London Aquatics Centre at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the same pool at which British breaststroking ace Adam Peaty ripped a new World Record in the 100m breaststroke. While competing at the 2015 British Championships, Peaty scored a 100m breaststroke time of 57.92 to crush the previous WR mark of 58.46 and represent the first man ever to dip beneath the 58-second threshold.
In the Twitter clip below, Peaty re-lives the race, commenting on how memorable the experience was in that he was able to break the old world record mark, held by South African Cameron Van der Burgh, which was set in that same pool during the 2012 London Olympic Games.
As such, Peaty says “the London Aquatics Center is one of the fastest pools in the world.” The City of Derby swimmer says he “can remember every moment of that race” and he hopes to continue his upward trajectory not just into European Championships, but also into the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
