On day one of the Best of the South Swim Meet in Atlanta, Swim Atlanta 12-year-old Parker Wheeler won three events, earning top-10 times in two of them.
He started the meet with a win in the boy’s 200 freestyle, swimming 1:47.69 to come in a little more than half-a-second ahead of the 2nd place finisher. This was almost a two second drop from his previous best of 1:49.83 from last month. It also moved him up the 11-12 rankings from 4th place to 2nd. The only person ahead of him now is Jude Burkhart at the 1:47.18 from his last meet he swam before turning 13.
2nd place finisher Pohaku Rademacher, a 12-year-old from Panama City Swim Team, also made his way onto the list, stopping the clock at 1:48.37, which was good for 3rd overall and a 10 spot improvement from his previous 13th place ranking.
Wheeler went on to win the boy’s 11-12 400 IM in 4:26.14. This time moved him up 10 places on the rankings from 16th to 6th, jumping Vincent Casciaro’s 4:24.85.
He also swam the 100 fly, which he won in 55.58. This was an add from his previous best time of 54.38 which sits in 2nd in the country this season.
Mike Rice, a 16-year-old from the Mecklenburg Swim Association, also found his way onto two top 10 lists. In his 200 freestyle, he finished 3rd in 1:35.85, which was good enough for 4th in the country among 15-16 boys this season. Rice had veen 8th in the event thanks to his 1:36.90 from Winter Juniors in December.
Connor Christopherson, a Swim Atlanta 16-year-old, placed 2nd at 1:35.55 which moved him into 2nd overall this season, behind only Liam Carrington’s 1:35.49, also from Winter Juniors. Christopherson was previously 4th, sitting at 1:36.45.
Rice also earned a top 10 spot in the boy’s 100 fly, where he swam 47.46 to win the event and move up to 9th this season. Before this meet, he was sitting 39th with his 48.56 from Winter Juniors.
Some of the girls also had strong sessions. 15-year-old Emma Grace Richardson from Swim MAC, won the 100 butterfly in 52.62, which moves her up to 5th in the 15-16 rankings. Richardson has been 52.42, which she went at Winter Juniors back when she was still 14.
Finally, 12-year-old Mallory Klemmer from Swim Atlanta won the 11-12 50 backstroke in 27.62. This time currently ranks her tied for 4th among 11-12 girls this season which is a massive jump from her 50th place position before the meet and her previous best of 28.53.
