Paris 2024 brought a little bit of everything to the Opening Ceremonies on Friday, including drawing from a well-known video game to execute the Olympic torch delivery.
The torch was stolen by a faceless assassin, also known as Arno from Assassin’s Creed, and he was seen running along the rooftops of Paris with it before ultimately delivering it to The Seine River site where the Opening Ceremonies are based.

The assassin was doing parkour, which originated in France, over the buildings.
The costume being used is reportedly inspired by characters who have left a mark on French culture, including the Phantom of the Opera and Arsène Lupin.

Through the early stages of the Cermonies, the torchbearer stopped by the Notre-Dame, the Louvre, crashed the rehearsal of “Les Misérables” and witnessed the disappearance of the “Mona Lisa.”
The torch was handed off by the Assassin’s Creed character to former soccer player Zinedine Zidane.

Assassin’s Creed is made by Ubisoft, a French video game publisher, and is slated to release its latest edition of the game, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, in November 2024.
Worst opening ceremonies I’ve ever seen… by a long shot.
An assassin on the rooftop is very insensitive. What a terrible thing to celebrate.
