Paris Expected To Avoid Major Heat Wave During First Week of Olympic Games

2024 PARIS SUMMER OLYMPIC GAMES

Although fears of rain spoiling the Opening Ceremonies were present on Friday, the coming days show no reason for concern in terms of weather at the 2024 Olympic Games.

An intense heat wave is lurking in portions of southern and eastern Europe, and although some of that could spill into southern France, there isn’t expected to be any exceptional heat coming through Paris over the next week.

Temperatures in the French capital are expected to peak at 34 degrees Celsius (93 Fahrenheit) on Tuesday, and be relatively stable with a high of 28 Celsius (82 Fahrenheit) in seven of the 10 days thereafter.

With delegations being provided air conditioning units (and bringing their own)—after Paris 2024 initially wanted there to be no AC units at the Games—the heat shouldn’t be a major concern for swimmers at the Games.

Paris 10-Day Forecast

Monday, July 29 32 (89.6) 19 (66.2)
Tuesday, July 30 34 (93.2) 22 (71.6)
Wednesday, July 31 30 (86.0) 20 (68.0)
Thursday, August 1 28 (82.4) 17 (62.6)
Friday, August 2 28 (82.4) 17 (62.6)
Saturday, August 3 28 (82.4) 18 (64.4)
Sunday, August 4 30 (86.0) 18 (64.4)
Monday, August 5 28 (82.4) 18 (64.4)

Open water swimming is scheduled for August 8th (men) and 9th (women).

The weather forecast looks reasonable for the competition with a high of 26 on August 8 and a high of 28 on August 9. On August 9, there will be a 60% chance of rain, however, and it could be relatively windy on both days, especially August 8, which cause for choppy conditions in The Seine.

Does the rain downpour tonight in Paris mean that the Seine’s E. coli numbers will go up?

Wait ‘n’ see!
