2017 FINA WORLD SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Farida Osman of Egypt improved her own national and African records in the 50 fly this morning on day six of the 2017 World Championships in Budapest.  The 22 year-old swam a 25.74 to tie Ranomi Kromowidjojo for the fifth-fastest time of the morning.  That time knocked 0.04 off the existing African record, which Osman set two years ago at the 2015 World Championships in Kazan.  Osman has broken this record on several different occasions, dating back to the 2013 World Championships in Barcelona.

Osman also owns the African Record in the 100 fly, which she set at last summer’s Olympic Games in Rio.  She just finished her senior year at the University of California, where she’s been a key part of a Golden Bears team that has been among the top in the NCAA swimming each year she swam.

Earlier this week, Osman finished 25th in the prelims of the 100 free, and then just missed making semis in the 100 fly.  She’s still slated to swim the 50 free tomorrow after tonight’s semis in the 50 fly.
