Olympic Swimmer Janet Evans Named USA Swimming Foundation Ambassador

The USA Swimming Foundation named three-time Olympic gold medalist Janet Evans as a USA Swimming Foundation Ambassador today. As an Ambassador, Evans will make three appearances on behalf of the Foundation aimed at spreading its mission of saving lives and building champions – in the pool and in life.

“Swimming is an amazing sport that has taught me lessons both in the water and out, which is why I was thrilled to become an Ambassador for the Foundation,” said Evans. “It seemed like a natural fit. As a mom, I’m especially passionate about the Foundation’s Make a Splash initiative centered around water safety.”

The Foundation’s Make a Splash initiative aims to provide every child in America the opportunity to learn to swim. Evans – a mother of two young children – has already been active in the initiative, doing a segment on the Today Show teaching young kids life-saving water skills.

“Janet is an excellent addition to our list of already impressive Ambassadors,” said USA Swimming Foundation Executive Director Debbie Hesse. “Janet left an incredible legacy in the pool, but what impressed me the most is what she’s done out of the pool. She continues to enhance the growth of our sport, teaching life lessons to countless kids, which aligns perfectly with our mission.”

Evans – who is a member of the U.S. Olympic and International Swimming Hall of Fame – joins Olympic gold medalists Rowdy Gaines, Mel Stewart and Cullen Jones as USA Swimming Ambassadors.
