NORFOLK, Va. – The Old Dominion Swimming team swept Gardner-Webb on Saturday, as the women’s team defeated Gardner-Webb 134-127 and the men were victorious, 168-94.
ODU began the meet with a pair of wins in the 200 Medley relay, starting with the women’s team of Samantha Allred, Jadyn Whitt, Kiersten Donnelly and Lauren Masters with a time 1:46.01. Linnea Kallebo, Marian Cheramy, Angela Sicaja and Emma Seidel placed third in 1:48.01.
The men’s team of Gustaf Hansson, August Eriksson, Jamie Cleaver and Dawson Truong won with a time of 1:29.49. Bryce Mortimer, Toni Sallaku, Jordan Davis and Ryan Lincicum took third in 1:31.51.
In the first individual event, the Monarchs took second and third as Sophia Kapla finished second in 10:34.85 and Lilly Cleal was third in 10:45.50.
Cooper Beebe placed second for the men with a time of 9:42.10.
Mallory Mackay notched a second place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:54.70.
Cleaver earned a win in the 200 free with a time of 1:37.93, while Grey Bremer came in second with a time of 1:41.17. The time of 1:37.93 was a Scrap Chandler Pool record for Cleaver.
Kiersten Donnelly earned the women’s teams first individual win with a time of 56.50 in the 100 backstroke. Bella Pachek came in third with a time of 58.38.
Hansson earned a win in the 100 backstroke with a time of 48.93. Mortimer came in third with a time of 50.83.
In the 100 breaststroke, the Monarchs came in second as Whitt finished in a time of 1:05.80 and Cheramy third in a time of 1:05.88.
Eriksson won the men’s 100 breaststroke with a time of 54.88.
Tetiana Yevminova won the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:06.87 as Kallebo came in second with a time of 2:10.23.
Cleaver recorded his second win of the day and second ODU pool record with a time of 1:48.00 in the 200 fly.
Lauren Masters notched a second-place position in the 50 free with a time of 24.45. Zach Redding earned the win in the men’s 50 free with a time of 20.36, while Ryan Lincicum finished third with a time of 21.51.
In the 100 free, Yevminova finished second in 53.28 and Whitt third with a time of 53.69.
Redding earned another win for ODU with a time of 44.53 while Eriksson took third with a time of 46.55.
Kallebo found the win column in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:03.98.
Hansson won the men’s 200 backstroke in 1:49.97 as Jordan Davis came in third with a time of 1:55.47.
Cheramy and Kristina Zachary took second and third in the 200 breaststroke, with times of 2:25.72 and 2:26.96, respectively.
Mortimer notched a win in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:58.82 as Eriksson came in second with a time of 2:06.16. Mortimer set an ODU Pool record with his time of 1:58.22.
Grey Bremer earned a win and set an ODU Pool record in the 500 free with a time of 4:32.19, while Cleaver finished third with a time of 4:37.76.
Donnelly earned a win in the 100 butterfly with a time of 56.25. Yevminova finished in third with a time of 57.49.
Redding and Davis went 1-2 in the 100 fly with times of 48.50 and 49.54, respectively. Redding’s time was an ODU Pool record.
Kaylee Eggers earned her first win of the day in the 400 IM with a time of 4:33.25, while Kalleba was just .24 behind in second with a time of 4:33.49.
Drew Vanden Heuvel finished second in the 400 IM with a time of 4:07.71.
The women’s 200 free relay team of Donnelly, Pachek, Yevminova and Masters finished second with a time of 1:37.00.
The men’s 200 free relay won with an ODU Pool record time of 1:22.95. The team consisted of Hansson, Brice Bounds, Lincicum and Redding.
The Monarchs host Davidson on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 11 a.m. for Senior Day.

NORFOLK, VA. – The Gardner-Webb University men’s and women’s swimming teams fell on the road to Old Dominion on Saturday, with the men losing 168-94 and the women losing 134-127 despite strong individual performances across the lineup
One of the finest individual races of the day came from Ellie Eckert in the women’s 1000 yard freestyle. Eckert touched the wall in 10:33, taking first place in the event by just over a second.
Santiago Alacantra also posted a similarly good result in the men’s 1000 yard freestyle for Gardner-Webb. Alacantra blitzed the field with a time of 9:30, taking first place by over 12 seconds.
Freshman Dakota Townley continued a strong start to her Gardner-Webb career in the women’s 100 yard breaststroke. Townley just out-touched her Old Dominion opposition with a time of 1:05.41 to take the top spot. She also competed later on in the women’s 200 yard breaststroke, winning that event with a time of 2:22
The Gardner-Webb also took the top spot in the women’s 200 yard freestyle by way of Emma Maust. Maust, in 1:54.37, managed to get to the line just 0.36 seconds ahead of second place for the win. Maust further competed in the women’s 500 yard freestyle where she led a Gardner-Webb top-three sweep in 5:06. Addie King and Ellie Eckert finished second and third respectively.
A good day for the women’s team continued into the women’s 100 yard freestyle. Once again with top honors, Salawka Ndubuisi ran away with a time of 51.89. Ndubuisi also won the women’s 50 yard freestyle in record time later in the day, posting a time of 23.25 seconds down the pool.
Relay events also proved to be very strong for Gardner-Webb with a second place in the men’s 200 yard medley and second in the women’s 200 yard medley. In the men’s event, Agustin Orechia, Justin Bender, John David Cass and Manuel Brandner combined for a time of 1:30.27, just narrowly missing top spot on the podium. Over in the women’s event, Ndubuisi, Townley, Hannah Routh and Paris Binard missed a win by only .03 seconds, one of the closest races of the day, touching the wall in 1:46.04
Next up for Gardner-Webb Swimming is the Queens Fall Frenzy, scheduled for November 21st through 24th in Charlotte, N.C.
