Noe Ponti Predicted His 50 Fly World Record In Message To Duncan Scott

2024 WORLD AQUATICS SWIMMING WORLD CUP-SHANGHAI

On the final day of action at the first stop of the 2024 World Aquatics Swimming World Cup in Shanghai, China, Noe Ponti of Switzerland blasted a new World Record in the men’s 50m fly.

Racing in this morning’s heats, 23-year-old Ponti crushed a time of 21.67 to establish the eye-popping new mark.

Ponti’s swim broke the old record that was shared by Nicholas Santos of Brazil and Szebasztian Szabo of Hungary at matching 21.75s. Santos’ swim was done in October 2018 at the Budapest stop of the World Cup, while Szabo’s was done in November 21 at the European Short Course Championships in Kazan, Russia.

Ponti nearly repeated that same result in tonight’s final, falling just .01 short to register a gold medal-worthy time of 21.68, still the 2nd fastest performance in history.

Ahead of today’s events, Ponti predicted his World Record in a friendly chat with fellow World Cup competitor, Olympic multi-medalist Duncan Scott of Great Britain.

Scott messaged, “I wanna see a wr tomorrow.” to which Ponti responded “In the heats”, which is exactly what the Swiss ace accomplished.

Dude’s underwaters are right up there with the very best. With how he’s swimming I wouldn’t put the 100 fly mark past him
