Nielsen Notches 50 Back Win At Danish SC Championships

2016 DANISH CHAMPIONSHIPS (SCM)

The 2016 Danish Championships kicked off rather quietly today as just a couple of the region’s big guns took to the pool on day 1. 20-year-old Mie Nielsen started her championship campaign by winning the women’s 50m backstroke. She clocked a speedy 26.56 to represent the only swimmer to go sub-27 among the field and score her 4th fastest performance of her young career.

Nielsen’s second swim on the day came as the lead-off on her Aalborg Svømmeklub women’s 4x50m freestyle relay. Nielsen registered the only 24-second lead-off and was only one of two swimmers to delve into sub-25-second territory of any leg of the entire relay field. Along with teammates Katrine Bukh Villesen (26.03), Elida Marie Folkedal Hole (26.42) and Isabella K. Sorensen (25.58), the foursome collectively earned a time of 1:42.26 to comfortably take the relay win by well over a second. Nielsen is slated to take the 100m backstroke, 200m IM, 200m freestyle events yet this meet.

Rikke Pedersen, Ranomi Kromowidjojo, Marrit Steenbergen and Kyle Stolk, among others, will highlight tomorrow’s prelims session which begins at 9:30am local.
