The 2019 New Zealand Short Course Championships kick-off in Auckland tomorrow, October 1st, where both age groupers and elite athletes alike will take to the Sir Owen G. Glenn National Aquatic Centre.

Athletes will be grouped by age in categories of 13 years, 14 years, 15 years, 16 years, 17-18 and 19 & Over (Open). The top 10 swimmers in each age group will swim in the final heats of each event, with B and C finals included based on the number of swimmers competing in the morning heats.

One athlete who will be missing from these Championships is Corey Main, as the former Florida Gator recently announced his retirement from competitive swimming at the age of 24.

Additional notables not in the mix this week are teenage freestyle speedster Michael Pickett, backstroking ace Ali Galyer and World Championships bronze medalist Lewis Clareburt.

That leaves NZ mainstays Bradlee Ashby, Zac Reid, Andrew Jeffcoat, Helena Gasson and Gina Galloway to help pack the star power into the meet.
