BURLINGTON, Vt. – The University of New Hampshire swimming and diving team recorded a 190-109 win at Vermont on Friday afternoon at Forbush Natatorium in an America East meet.
The Wildcats won 11 of 16 events in the road victory against the Catamounts.
UNH improves to 3-0 overall (3-0 AE) on the year, while Vermont drops to 2-3 overall (1-1 AE).
UNH junior Anna Metzler (Regensburg, Germany) won three events after 10 days of quarantine for the Wildcats with first place finishes in the 1000-yard free (10:20.56), the 100-yard back (58.03) and the 200-yard back (2:03.43).
Senior Miranda Bacon (Scotia, N.Y.) set a pool record in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:21.72. The previous record was held by Laura Gorinksi (2:21.73) of Navy, set on January 16, 2010. Bacon also picked up a victory in the 200 IM with a 2:07.90 mark.
“We had a strong day today, as we are in the midst of some tough training and the team worked through the meet well,” said UNH Head Coach Josh Willman. “We are excited to begin fine tuning for the upcoming championships later this month.”
Sophomore Jamy Lum (Honolulu, Hawaii) added wins in the 100-yard breaststroke at 1:04.46 and 500-yard free (5:03.35) for UNH. Lum narrowly missed the pool record in the 100-breast by two tenths of the second.
Sophomore Olivia Stille (Stockholm, Sweden) got the victory in the 100-yard free at 52.99, while freshman Michaela Herwig (Geneva, Ill.) finished first with a time of 58.74 for the ‘Cats
The Wildcats won both relay events on the day, including the 400-yard medley replay with a time of 3:53.90 comprised of Metzler, Herwig, Lum and Stille, along with the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:36.26) comprised of Stille, Herwig, Cate Wardinski (Burke, Va.) and McKinney.
In diving action, freshman Kiera Moon (Middleton, Mass.) finished second in both the one-meter (181.49) and three-meter dive (191.17).

- The Wildcats return to action on Saturday, April 17 for the opening day of diving events at the America East Championships hosted by Binghamton University.

DURHAM, N.H. – Co-captain Emily Murphy led the Catamounts Friday evening in their dual meet against UNH winning the one-meter and three-meter diving events but UVM fell 190-109 to the Wildcats in both teams’ final meet of the regular season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- For Murphy, it was the second time this season she has won both diving events. She won the one-meter with a score of 231.44 points and the three-meter with a mark of 218.6 points.
- Mina Poppas won the 200 free for the third consecutive meet for the Catamounts. Her time of 1:55.21 was her fastest of the season and .82 seconds faster than the closest competition.
- In senior Katie Rivers final home meet she won the 200 fly for the fourth straight meet. Her time of 2:11.16 was .70 seconds faster than UNH’s Abby McKinney who placed second.
- Vivian Nguyen earned her first win of the season in the 50 free with a time of 25.21. It was her second fastest 50 free time this year.
- UNH’s Miranda Bacon set a new Forbush Natatorium women’s record in the 200 breast with a time of 2:21.72. Her time was one-hundredth of a second faster than Navy’s Laura Gorinski who set the old mark on January 16, 2010.
WHO’S NEXT
The Catamounts will return to action later this month for the 2021 America East Swimming and Diving Championships. On April 17 and 18 the diving competition will be held at Binghamton. Then on April 23-25 the swimming events will be held at NJIT. All of the action will be streamed live on AmericaEast.TV. Unfortunately, no spectators will be allowed at either venue.
