RENO, Nev. – Nevada swim and dive concluded on top in their first home meet of the season against the Fresno State Bulldogs Saturday afternoon. The Pack scored a total of 173 points against 127 for the Bulldogs.
Senior Josien Wijkhuijs won both of her events and was also a member of the winning 200-medley relay. Wijkhuijs finished the 100 backstroke with a time of 54.88, which is the fastest middle-of-the-season time in her career. The senior also came out on top in the 100 butterfly, with a time of 56.99.
The Pack started the day by winning the 200-medley relay. The squad, composed of Kyla Alexander, Wiktoria Samula, Wijkhuijs, and Colette Berkenfield, finished with a time of 1:43.30.
Benedict Nagy kept the momentum going for the Pack as she came out on top with a time of 10:47.81 in the 1000-yard freestyle. B. Nagy was also the top swimmer of the Pack in the 400 IM and the 200 backstroke. The senior took the win in the 400 IM, with a time of 4:31.30, and second place, with a time of 2:08.31.
The Nevada divers continue to dominate their events as they took home first, second, third, and fourth place in the 1-meter and the 3-meter springboard. Lucia Gabino was the winner of the 3-meter, with a score of 324.38. Gabino was followed by Bailey Heydra (324.30), Melissa Mirafuentes (321.15), and Laura Isabel Vazquez Lopez (x319.28).
In the 1-meter, Vazquez Lopez took the win for the Pack with a score of 314.48. Mirafuentes was second, with 296.40 points, Gabino was third (282.75), Heydra was forth (x281.63).
Samula continues with the breaststroke tradition as she took both wins in the individual events. Samula started the day by taking the 100 breast, with a time of 1:03.91. The senior was the top swimmer in the 200 breast, with a time of 2:20.08.
Senior Destiny Kling took the win in the 200 butterfly for the Pack with a time of 2:08.77. Kling also represented the Pack in the 500 freestyle as she finished in fourth place with a time of 5:21.65. Mariana Vignoli was the winner of the event with a time of 5:13.21. Vignoli also took home the silver in the 200 free, with a time of 1:54.18.
Berkenfield was the top swimmer of the Pack in the 50 free, as she took home the gold, with a time of 24.11. The senior was also third in the 100 free, with a time of 53.01.
Nevada concluded the day on a second place in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:37.01.
Up next:
The Pack will go on the road for the mid-season invite. The swim team will head to St. George, Utah, on Nov. 17-19 for the Utah Tech Invite, while the dive team will go to Flagstaff, Ariz., Nov. 18-20 for the Lumberjack Diving Invite.

RENO, Nev. – The Fresno State swimming and diving team fell 173-127 on Saturday afternoon to Nevada at Lombardi Pool.
The Bulldogs took home four wins with sophomore Wiktoria Dabrowksa earning a pair of top-place finishes winning the 200 Free (1:53.80) and 100 Free (52.68).
Senior Athena Clayson won the 200 Back (2:02.24) and the 200 Free Relay team of Eleonora Trentin, Julia Matney, Wiktoria Dabrowska and Clayson clocked a top time of 1:36.39.
Seven other individuals and the 200 Medley Relay team earned runner-up honors on the day.
The Bulldog divers return to the pool at the USC Diving Invite on Nov. 11-13 with the swimmers back in action at the Utah Tech Invitational on Nov. 17-19.
