- Pre-Selection Sheets
With the qualification window closed, the preselection sheets for the 2025 NCAA Division II Swimming & Diving Championships have been released.
While these sheets don’t show who will be invited to the championships, they do show the names of athletes who have swum at least the NCAA ‘B’ standard in an event and have been put forth by their teams for consideration in the selection process.
The number of participants selected for the 2025 NCAA DII Championships is capped at 175 men (157 swimmers/18 divers) and 205 women (183 swimmers/22 divers). Unlike Division I and Division III, swimmers in Division II can enter up to four individual races. Division II also sponsors the 1000 freestyle as a championship event, which neither Division I nor Division III does.
It’s been an incredibly fast 2024-25 season in Division II, with seven NCAA Division II records falling before the big show in March. Kirabo Namutebi got the party started during the first semester, breaking the women’s NCAA DII 50 freestyle record with a 22.03.
Tampa’s Jacob Hamlin has been a key part of the record-breaking spree, leading Tampa’s title-defense effort by breaking the 500/1000/1650 freestyle DII records this season (4:16.84/8:53.99/14:55.02). But that doesn’t mean Hamlin’s going to run away with the distance crowns; 400 IM Olympic finalist Cedric Buessing lowered Hamlin’s 500 freestyle NCAA DII record in the 500 free, clocking 4:16.15 during his conference championships. That sets up a tight race between Hamlin and Buessing in the 500 freestyle and the 1000, where there’s less than a second separating them at the top of the psych sheet.
All the individual NCAA DII record-setters are entered in their primary events, including 100 backstroke record holder Agata Naskret. She’s the top seed in the women’s 100/200 backstroke and lowered her 100 backstroke record to 51.86 at midseason.
Below is where this season’s NCAA individual event record-breakers fall on the preselection sheets in their individual events.
Entries For This Season’s Individual NCAA DII Record Breakers
- Kirabo Namutebi, UIndy — 50 free (1st), 100 free (7th), 100 breast (50th)
- Agata Naskret, CMU — 50 free (5th), 100 free (15th), 100 back (1st), 200 back (1st)
- Jacob Hamlin, Tampa — 200 free (5th), 500 free (2nd), 1000 free (1st), 1650 free (1st)
- Cedric Buessing, UIndy — 500 free (1st), 1000 free (2nd), 200 back (3rd), 400 IM (1st)
Drury’s quartet of Ivan Adamchuk, Davi Mourao, Alejandro Villarejo, and Lucas Mineur reset the division’s 400 medley relay record with a 3:06.83. Adamchuk owns the division’s fastest time this season in the 200 IM (1:43.13) and 100 backstroke (46.19), and is second in the 200 backstroke (1:42.49). Villarejo ranks first in the 100 butterfly (46.41) and second in the 200 butterfly (1:43.84), while Mourao is second in the 200 breast (1:54.38) and third in the 100 breast (52.28).
One notable absence is CMU freshman and Olympian Harry Stacey. He had achieved a DII ‘A’ cut in the 100 freestyle and a ‘B’ cut in the 100 fly, but does not appear on the pre-selection sheets. Colorado Mesa declined to comment on why. Stacey last raced at CMU’s tri-meet against Air Force and BYU at the end of January.
The NCAA is expected to release the official selections for the 2025 NCAA Division II Championships on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 5 pm ET.
Last year, the Nova Southeastern women’s team successfully defended their title, while the University of Tampa men’s team won its first NCAA championship in program history.
