Meet Preview and All the Links You Need for the 2016 Georgia Tech Invite

2016 GEORGIA TECH INVITATIONAL

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will be hosting the 2016 Georgia Tech Invitational this weekend, with the competition beginning on Thursday, November 17th and ending on Saturday, November 20th. Competition will take place in the McAuley Aquatic Center, which was the site of last season’s NCAA Championships. Prelims will begin at 10 a.m. every day and finals will begin at 5:30 p.m. Eastern.

A handful of top teams will be competing in the invite, including Alabama, Florida, and Auburn (women only). We’ll likely see American Record holder Caeleb Dressel in action for the Gators, which could set up some exciting battles with Alabama sprinters Laurent Bams and Zane Waddell. We’ll also get to see Florida freshman standout Maxime Rooney, a U.S. National champion, in his first collegiate invite.

On the women’s side, one of the big matchups will come in the IM races, where Alabama’s Mia Nonnenberg will go head-to-head with Florida’s Savanna Faulconer, who will be making her invite debut for the Gators.

PARTICIPATING TEAMS:

  • Georgia Tech
  • Alabama
  • Auburn (women only)
  • Florida Gulf Coast (women only)
  • Arkansas (women only)
  • South Carolina
  • Florida
  • Campbell
  • East Carolina
  • Georgia Southern (women only)

Omg, KAtie Ledecky would have won the men’s 1000 and placed 2nd in the men’s 500

The results on the live results link right now are from a duel meet and not the invite this article is about. However, you are right and the times Katie posted were also in a duel meet so your amazement and awe are matched be me and hopefully all others. She is most dominant swimmer in this generation, Phelps included. Even 4 years after her first Olympic win the rest of the swimming world isn’t catching up and closing the gap yet.

They need to let Katie swim with the men at one meet. I’d love to see that!! Maybe it would push her even more.

Actual results are posted now. She would have almost made the A final. Still pretty impressive.

Got confused for a moment that the invite is today the 16th… It is November 17th as listed up top.

Can’t wait to see Maxime Rooney’s progression at Florida after a disappointing last summer. He has such a big potential.
I would like to see him at least qualify in the US 4X200 free squad for next year’s world championships. And why not represent USA in the 200 free with Townley Haas?

What are we thinking for times for Dressel? 18.5? 41.5?

He has already gone 47.3 in the 100 fly this year. If you think he can drop .7 in his 50 then he should be able to drop at least that in the 100 fly…

There’s a video of Dressel doing speed work so they’re definitely resting at least a little, I doubt they’re doing a full shave + taper though
