Senior diver Nick McCrory is headed to Austin, Texas for the USA Diving Winter National Championships, scheduled for Dec. 17-22 at the University of Texas’ Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center.
McCrory will compete in the men’s 3-meter springboard event beginning with the preliminaries Wednesday, Dec. 18. The semifinals will also take place Wednesday, while the 3-meter final is slated for Saturday, Dec. 21 in Austin.
The ACC’s top performer in 1-meter, 3-meter and platform diving this season, McCrory has garnered ACC Male Diver of the Week accolades on three occasions, most recently after sweeping the three disciplines last month at the 2013 Janis Hape Dowd Nike Cup. The Chapel Hill, N.C., native and three-time NCAA platform diving champion has posted season-best scores of 446.5 on the 1-meter board, 477.65 at the 3-meter height and 460.3 on the platform to surpass the NCAA Zone Diving Championships standards in all three events. He was recognized in Sports Illustrated’s ‘Faces in the Crowd’ in the Nov. 18 issue after breaking pool records on the 1-meter and 3-meter boards in his 2013-14 debut at UNC Wilmington.
