Max Litchfield on 200 IM Title: I Work A Lot on my Back Half

2017 BRITISH SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

On night 5 of the 2017 British Swimming Championships, Max Litchfield completed the set of IM golds. After busting out a new 400 IM record earlier in the meet, Litchfield added the 200 IM title to his resume tonight, as he won the race in a personal best time of 1:58.10.

Litchfield is now just one place shy of the top 8 in the 2017 world rankings. His time lands him 9th behind Germany’s Philip Heintz (1:57.81), while tonight’s silver medalist Mark Szaranek (1:58.39) and bronze medalist Duncan Scott (1:58.44) move up to 10th and 11th in the world respectively.

Here’s a quote from his post-race interview:

“I’ve raced well towards the back end of last year and this week so I’m excited. Coming here was all about trying to qualify for Budapest and now the focus is to get back into hard training and I’m massively looking forward to it.”
