Cleveland State has received a verbal commitment from Mason Manta Rays freestyler Gabriella Marinelli for their class of 2020. Marinelli attends Mason High School in Ohio.

Marinelli swims the 50 through the 200 free and excels most in the 100y free, though she is also a solid 200 IMer.

Marinelli’s Best Times (LCM in parentheses)

  • 50 free – 24.40 (27.55)
  • 100 free – 51.68 (59.24)
  • 200 free – 1:53.75 (2:08.13)
  • 200 IM – 2:12.18

Marinelli should be a big addition to the Cleveland State squad as soon as she gets to campus, since her times would have put her in the 100 free A final at last year’s Horizon League Championships. Meanwhile, her 200 free would’ve made the B final and she would’ve been on the B final bubble in the 50 free.

Cleveland State finished 7th of 8 teams last year at the Horizon League Championships, and a commit like Marinelli will help turn that around for them. She would’ve been their best 100 and 200 freestyler by a long shot last season, and should without a doubt instantly boost their free relays at any distance. Marinelli  is also a likely candidate to anchor the Vikings’ medley relays.
