POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – Fairfield men’s and women’s swimming and diving were both edged by Marist this afternoon as the men dropped the meet by a score of 99-199 while the women were defeated by a score of 108-190.

On the women’s side, Alexandra Miko-Rydzaj, Colleen Young, Morgan Hansen and Samantha D’Alessandro started off the day with a first-place finish in the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a final time of 1:49.09.  Morgan Hansen won the 200 Yard Butterfly clocking in at 2:09.14 while Sara Ostensen finished second at 2:10.87. Hansen also placed first in the 100 Yard Butterfly with a time of 59.10 and finished second in the 200 Yard Individual Medley at 2:14.21. The Stags won the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay as Maria Nitti, Samantha D’Alessandro, Madelynn Mowad and Sara Ostensen finished with a time of 3:42.21. Miko-Rydzaj, Emily Holman, Shannon Feeley and Rachel Landry also placed second in the event at 3:54.42. Maria Nitti finished in second in the 200 Yard Freestyle (1:57.13), the 50 Yard Freestyle (24.81) and the 100 Yard Freestyle (53.90). Alexandra Miko-Rydzaj also placed second in the 100 Yard Backstroke at 1:00.63. Ostensen finished third in the 1000 Yard Freestyle while Colleen Young placed third in the 100 Yard Breaststroke.

“Our women had a tough meet today” said Bruno “It’s been us and Marist at the top the last two championships, and we fully expected to get their best meet of the year. We had many season best performances and saw some of our 1st years stepped up in a really competitive environment. We’ll get back to work and focus on what we need to do for championship time.”

For the men, Will Robinson, Guillem Perez, Austin Twiss, and Ian Nelson started the day with a second-place finish in the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a time of 1:36.89. Guillem Perez won the 100 Yard Breaststroke clocking in at 1:00.48 while Peter Sloan and Chris Ford came in second and third respectively. Perez also placed second in the 200 Yard Breaststroke at 2:13.02 while Ford placed third. Evan Fair placed second in the 100 Yard Backstroke while Will Robinson placed third. Fair also finished in third in the 200 Yard Backstroke and the 200 Yard Individual Medley. Ian Nelson and Nick Adams finished in second and third respectively in the 50 Yard Freestyle. Patrick Boyle also finished third in the 1000 Yard Freestyle while Benjamin Kebbell placed third in the 200 Yard Freestyle. Austin Twiss came in third as well in the 200 Yard Butterfly while Peter Gori finished third in the 100 Yard Freestyle. Gori, Brendan Finnegan, Jordan Rahurahu, and Fair placed first in the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay with a final time of 3:17.46 while Twiss, Thomas Willemse, Ford, and Adams placed second.

“I felt our men’s team made a real push to get themselves in the conversation this post season” said Head Coach Anthony Bruno. “When I think about the improvements we’ve made over the last two and a half years I could not be prouder of our seniors. Despite the score, we raced incredibly well against a tough program. We can race with anyone and we’re looking forward to getting another shot in February”

The Stags will head to East Meadow, N.Y. for the ECAC Winter Championships on December 6-8.

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist men’s swimming and diving defeated the Fairfield Stags by a score of 199-99 on Saturday afternoon. This was the second win in a row for the Red Foxes, and Marist has now won four of its first five dual meets to open the season.

With the win, the Red Foxes improve to 4-1 overall, and 2-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference meets. Meanwhile, the Stags fall to 2-5 overall on the season.

• The men opened the event taking first place in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Sean Doran, Jackson Klarsfeld, Pavel Makarchuk, and Ahmed Salam clocked in with a time of 1:35.34 to lead the pack
• Michael O’Donovan took first place in the first individual event of the day, which was the 1000-yard free. He clocked in at 9:46.34, which was a personal best. Teammate Adam Kapusta followed him in second place with a time of 9:53.37.
• It was an impressive meet all around for O’Donovan, who tied to lead the men with 18 points. He also took home a first-place finish in the 500-yard free, finishing with a time of 4:46.34.
• The other Red Fox with 18 points was Salam, who was a force to be reckoned with in the 50-yard free and 100-yard free yet again. He took first in both events, with times of 21.21 and 46.55, respectively.
• Raislan Aiken and David Gallino each one a diving event for the Red Foxes. Gallino took first in the 1-meter dive with a score of 245.03, and Aiken took home first in the 3-meter dive for the second week in a row with 282.15 points.
• Klarsfeld finished off the meet by taking first in the final individual event, the 200-yard IM. He clocked in with a time of 1:56.52, and Ryan Kaplan finished right behind him with a time of 1:59.48.

The Red Foxes have a small stretch of time off, as they will not swim for the rest of November. They will return to action on December 6 in the H2Ounds Invitational. While there, they will take on Iona and Loyola Maryland over the course of two days.

POUGHKEEPSIE, New York – Marist women’s swimming and diving won their second meet in a row on Saturday afternoon, defeating the two-time defending champion Fairfield Stags 190-108. The divers put on an absolute clinic, finishing first, second, and third in all four diving events.

With the win, the Red Foxes improve to 3-2 on the season, and 2-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference meets. Meanwhile, the Stags drop to 1-6 on the season.

• The women opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. The team of Juliet Nowak, Georgeanne Zimmerman, Veronica Stureborg, and Megan Lasto clocked in at 1:49.38 to lead Marist. This was the team’s fastest time in the event this season.
• Heather Hartmann won the first individual event of the meet, taking first place in the 100-yard free with a time of 10:33.81.
• Zimmermann had one of the best, if not the best, meets of her career. Besides a great performance in the opening relay, she had a whopping 27 points in the meet. She won three individual legs, including the 100-yard breast, the 50-yard free, and the 100-yard free.
• Jessica Freund was the second-leading scorer for Marist, totaling 22 points. She won both the 200-yard breast and the 200-yard IM, clocking in with times of 2:27.59 and 2:12.73, respectively.
• Nowak also had a solid day, totaling 18 points. She won both the 100-yard back and the 200-yard back.
• Esabelle Gervasio, now a three-time MAAC Diver of the Week, continued her string of dominant performances. She won both diving events yet again, totaling 281.03 points in the 3-meter dive, and 276.98 in the 1-meter dive. She led all divers in the meet with 18 total points.
