30 swimmers have been named to represent France at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Highlighting the roster includes Leon Marchand on the men’s side and Marie Wattel on the women’s side.
The 14 women and 16 men were named at the conclusion of the 2024 French Elite Championships that took place from Sunday, June 16th through Friday, June 23rd.
Despite not winning any medals at the 2020(1) Tokyo Games, Leon Marchand highlights the men’s roster after winning the 200 fly, 200 IM, and 400 IM World Championship titles last July. Marchand also broke Michael Phelps‘ World Record in the 400 IM.
Also highlighting the men’s roster is Florent Manaudou who was the country’s lone medalist in Tokyo. Manaudou won silver in the 50 freestyle in Tokyo finishing only behind Caeleb Dressel of the USA.
Numerous 2022 World Championship medalists highlight the roster. Maxime Grousset won bronze in the 50 and silver in the 100 in 2022. Marchand won the 200 IM, 400 IM, and silver in the 200 fly. Melanie Henique won silver in the 50 fly while Marie Wattel won silver in the 100 fly.
Another notable name on the roster is Anastasiia Kirpichnikova who made team after previously representing Russia at the Tokyo Games. This is not her first time representing France at the international level as she already competed for France at the 2023 World Championships.
The Games will begin in Paris on July 26th with the opening ceremony. Swimming competition will take place from July 27th-August 4th in the La Defense Arena.

If he’s not already, Florent definitely becomes a top 5 sprinter of all time with a podium place. FOUR straight Olympics would be wild.

Is France able to qualify without him swimming the heats? Same for Manaudou in the 4X100 free?
They were the #2 qualifier at Worlds in 2023 with Marchand on breaststroke. Antoine Viquerat is on the roster, so have to assume that’s the plan. They had two seconds of margin to the final in 2023 and Marchand would give maybe a second+ to Viquerat, but Italy was 9th in 2023 and will be faster. So I think that on net, the other guys will have to push a little harder in prelims, but all-in-all they can do it.
They missed finals in the 400 free relay with Manaudou swimming (though it seems like his 100 is much better now). They also didn’t use Grousset in prelims at Worlds. Seems like Grousset might be more the key to them… Read more »

all pretty much guaranteed to make the final but MAYBE 1 or 2 slip up and France gets an outside lane. The 4×1 is absolutely stacked on paper and a potential race of the century is every team is in form

I think Leon will likely be on the free relay but right now if he were to split under 47.5 that would be great and at best that would put them in contention for a bronze.
The medley relay they are in bronze medal territory too. Unless something crazy happens I don’t see them getting by the US or China especially after the last leg.
They have Manadou lead from a push and hope the judges mistake his straight arm recovery for backstroke
