Women’s 50 Freestyle – Finals

  1. Maggie Macneil (LSU) – 21.03
  2. Kalia Antoniou (BAMA) – 21.86
  3. Morgan Scott (BAMA) – 22.07
  4. Anicka Delgado (USC) – 22.18
  5. Andrea Sansores (UARK) – 22.37
  6. Chloe Stepanek (TAMU) – 22.43
  7. Hanna Henderson (USC) – 22.44
  8. Bella Cothern (UARK) – 22.71

After hitting the ground running at the Art Adamson Invitational with an eye-catching 20.59 50 freestyle splitMaggie MacNeil doubled down with a blazing 21.03 to win the individual event.

With that swim, she tied the SEC record, held by Erika Brown. It also makes her the fourth fastest performer of all-time, behind Kate Douglass, Abbey Weitzeil, and Gretchen Walsh

Fastest All-Time Performers, Women’s 50 Free

  1. Kate Douglass (2022) – 20.84
  2. Abbey Weitzeil (2019) – 20.90
  3. Gretchen Walsh (2022) – 20.95
  4. Erika Brown (2020)/Maggie Macneil (2022) – 21.03

This is also a massive best time for MacNeil. Her previous lifetime best was 21.17, which she posted to finish second at the 2021 NCAAs. Now, she’s on the cusp of becoming the fourth female swimmer in history to break the 21 second barrier.

The Canadian 22-year-old has been on a tear since reuniting with Rick Bishop as a graduate student at LSU. She’s broken four school records through her first semester in a Tiger cap, including setting a record for fastest unsuited 100 fly at 50.84 (which Gretchen Walsh later broke).

This is the third time that she’s broken the LSU record in the 50 free. She set it at 21.90 at a dual against South Carolina, lowered it to 21.86 in prelims, and has now brought it to 21.03. Here in finals, she won the event by .83 seconds ahead of Alabama’s Kalia Antoniou.

Now that she’s tied with Brown for the SEC record, MacNeil now owns both the SEC and Big Ten records in the event.
