RENO, Nev. – Head coach Neil Harper has hired a former collegiate standout to his Wolf Pack swimming and diving coaching staff, announcing Lauren Lubus as an assistant coach. A former NCAA All-American swimmer at Indiana, Lubus joins the Wolf Pack after private coaching the last several years.
“I am excited about the valuable experience, insight and professionalism Lauren will bring to our coaching staff and team,” said Harper. “She has had exposure to some of the most successful coaches in America and has a wealth of personal experience that will prove invaluable to our young student-athletes.”
A native of St. Louis, Mo., Lubus graduated from Indiana University in 2006 as a four-year letter winner on the swimming and diving team. Lubus broke the Hoosier’s school record and earned NCAA All-American honors in the 200 butterfly in 2003. That season, she also helped lead Indiana to a Big Ten conference title. Lubus competed at NCAA’s in 2004 as well.
Lubus was named co-captain at Indiana from 2004-06. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business marketing after earning Big Ten and NCAA Scholastic All-American honors. Lubus also earned the Scholastic Achievement Award in 2005. Lubus competed in the U.S. Olympic Trials in the 200 butterfly in 2000 and 2004.
Prior to collegiate swimming, Lubus competed in seven U.S. National Championship meets. Lubus won the USA Swimming Southeast Junior Nationals in the 100 and 200 butterfly in 1998, helping Rockwood Swim Club win the team title, and was featured in Sports Illustrated’s “Faces in the Crowd.” She also competed in Barcelona, Spain on the U.S. National Junior Team in 1999. That same year, Lubus helped her Rockwood Swim Club win the USA Swimming Southeast Junior Nationals title.
After an accomplished career at Indiana, Lubus coached a range of swimmers privately from 2008-15. During that time, she also worked professionally within the medical field. Lubus received a master’s degree in health administration from Penn State in 2008.
“I am honored and very excited for this coaching opportunity with the Nevada women’s swimming and diving team and to give back to the sport I am so passionate about,” said Lubus. “I truly respect the dedication these women have to performing at the highest level as collegiate student-athletes, and I look forward to helping each of them maximize personal and team success, both in the pool and classroom.”
Lubus and the Wolf Pack open the 2015-16 season this week, Oct. 23-24, at the Pacific Invitational.
