It’s always a great day to be a LION but it’s even better after a victory and that’s exactly what the men’s AND women’s swimming and diving teams accomplished today over the University of Missouri – St. Louis.
In the women’s 400-yard medley relay, Stephanie Marks, Maja Piotrowicz, Kayla Bulseco and Adi Luker came in first with a time of 3:54.61; while Team B came in third with a time of 4:08.65. Team B was comprised of Maddie Lynch, Saylor Wilson, Nina Tasic and Lyssa Wood. On the men’s side Piotr Kowalczyk, Johan Cue Carrillo, Lance Godard and Ondrej Dusa recorded a time of 3:23.47 for first; while Team B consisting of Jose Ochoa, Mattia Giurgevich, Nick Williams and Gavin Schulte finished in third with a time of 3:29.54.
In the women’s 1650-yard freestyle, Megan Hollaar (17:49.54) and Kathryn Chaves (18:11.48) earned second and third respectively. On the men’s side, Jaxson Bradburn recorded a 16:54.08 for second place. In the women’s 200-yard freestyle Kornelia Buszka recorded a second-place finish in 2:00.28. On the men’s side, Lindenwood took first, second, and third, we will call it a sweep. Adam Szczerba (1:42.53), Dusa (1:47.01) and Jacob Noble (1:49.01) displayed their athleticism for the Lions.
The women’s 50-yard freestyle saw Kayla Bulseco finish in first in 24.85 and Nona Tasic finish in second in 25.21. For the men, Kowalczyk finished first in 21.20 and Cue Carrillo took second in 22.05. For the women’s 200-yard IM, Piotrowicz took first with a time of 2:07.45 and Marks finished in second (2:11.85). Jose Ochoa and Ryan Boeding raced into second and third, respectively with times of 1:54.67 and 1:56.98.
The women’s team showed out in the 100-yard butterfly with Ellie Lopez (59.87), Hollaar (1:01.14) and Kathryn Chaves (1:01.20) for first, second and third. On the men’s side, Matheo Mateos-Mongelos recorded a time of 52.33 for second place. In the women’s 100-yard freestyle, Buszka took first in 54.24, Luker finished in second with a time of 54.91 and Laney Fenton finished in third with a time of 55.38. For the men, Polat Tasbasi captured first in 46.40 and Godard took second in 47.55.
Moving to the women’s 100-yard backstroke, Marks finished in 58.34 for second and Piotrowicz took third in 58.77. On the men’s side, Max Wetteland finished in second with a time of 54.29 and Boeding took third in 56.06. In the women’s 500-yard freestyle, Lucy Price finished in third with a time of 5:20.39, while Mateos-Mongelos finished in first for the men with a time of 4:47.04. Beata Maruszczyk took second with a time of 1:07.42. Cue Carrillo took first in 55.56 and Tasbasi finished in second in 57.65.
In the women’s 400-yard frrestyle relay, Buszka, Laney Fenton, Evi Blennert and Maruszczyk finished in second with a time of 3:38.37; while Chaves, Nina Tasic, Adison Marshall and Hollaar finished in third with a time of 3:43.05. For the men, Dusa, Tasbasi, Mateos-Mongelos and Kowalczyk finished in first (3:06.34) while Giurgevich, Wetteland, Szczerba and Trevor Danner took third in 3:11.19. Lindenwood women won the meet 113-92, while the men won 122-83.
Assistant Coach Jonathan Reeder stated, “Super excited about the team coming together in a tough position! The team culture is developing well and we are excited for what the season brings moving forward!”
The Lions will host the University of Missouri and Southern Illinois University in St. Peters, Missouri, at the St. Peters Rec-Plex on November 3rd at 11:30 a.m.

ST. LOUIS – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s and women’s swimming team dropped both ends of its dual meet to Lindenwood on Friday afternoon at the UMSL Swimming Pool. The women lost to the Lions 113-92 while the men fell 122-83.
The Triton women won six events in the dual led by freshman Justice Beard who won the 1650 freestyle and 500 free. Beard finished with a time of 17:12.08 in the1650 and 5:09.68 in the 500.
Freshman Kelsey Roth was the winner in the 200 free in a time of 1:58.76. Freshman Ella Lantz won the 100 back in a time of 58.28 seconds and fifth-year senior Zara Konstapel took first in the 100 breast at 1:05.94.
UMSL’s 400 free relay team of Roth, sophomore Madison Bottorff, E. Lantz and freshman Audrey Lantz won the event in a time of 3:36.41.
Senior Maria Serra finished third in the 200 free, Bottorff was third in the 50 free and junior Kate Nelson, sophomore Isabella Gruidl Konstapel were third, fourth and fifth respectively in the 200 individual medley.
The Triton men picked up four event wins against the Lions. Freshman Hendrik Bechtel won the 1650 free with a time of 16:25.31, senior Guillem Masjuan Roca claimed the top spot in the 200 IM with a time of 1:53.95, senior Conley Savage was the winner in the 100 fly at 49.78 seconds and senior Ryan Conner won the 100 back at 52.57 seconds.
Senior David Reynolds was the runner-up in the 50 free, sophomore Aaron Wicklund and freshman Carson Ring finished second and third in the 500 free, junior Ethan Boehle was third in the 100 fly, junior Mason Stimson came in third in the 100 free and freshman Dylan Bonnett was third in the 100 breast.
UMSL’s 400 free relay quartet of Masjuan Roca, Reynolds, Bechtel and Savage were second in a time of 3:08.30.
The Tritons return to the pool next Saturday as they travel to Kirksville, Mo., to take on Truman State at noon.
