BETHLEHEM, Pa. – For the 28th straight time, the Lehigh men’s swimming and diving team captured a victory over rival Lafayette on Friday night. Different year, same story, as the Mountain Hawks throttled the Leopards, 218-69.
At the conclusion of the night, the Brown and White won 14-of-16 events.
“I have thankfully been a part of 16 years of Lehigh-Lafayette meets, but this one brought so much excitement and energy, it was so thrilling,” said head coach Rob Herb.
The men’s team shattered five records on the night, adding to the already glorious ending. Walker Wilson and Glenn Lasco each tallied three total wins on the night, while Teddy Smith, Connor Sept, Tyler Keller (diving), Matt Feryo and Owen Thomas all earned two wins.
Both relay teams broke a pool record against Lafayette. In the 200 medley relay, the Lehigh team of Greg Giannella, Sept, Smith and Thomas captured the record with a time of 1:31.91, while the 800 free relay team of Collin Hanlon, Wilson, Feryo and Lasco broke the record at 6:44.47.
In the 1000 free, the senior Wilson broke the team and pool record with a win at 9:17.62, while Lasco broke a team record in the 200 free with a time of 1:38.88. Rounding out the record breakers, in the 100 IM, Sept shattered a pool record with a time of 52.45.
In diving, Keller took first in both the 1 and 3-meter dives. In the 1-meter dive, Keller finished with a score of 284.09, followed a score of 377.50 in the 3-meter dive.
“Honestly, our team just unloaded their energy and their race fury on Lafayette,” added Herb. “Tonight was just an amazing night for our student-athletes, the fans and the alumni.”
Rounding out the night for Lehigh, freshman Andrew Sukach won the 200 fly with a time of 1:52.23, while Joey Rogers took first in the 50 free with a time of 21.16. In the 100 breast, Tyler Christ took second with a time of 58.22,
Up next, the women will gear up for a tough Rutgers Invitational on December 4. This four-day event will be held on the campus of Rutgers.
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Might have been a different year, but the story remains the same, as the
Lehigh women’s swimming and diving team won its 12th straight meet against the Lafayette Leopards on Friday night.
Prior to the start, the Mountain Hawks took a few moments to honor their seniors, followed by winning 14-of-16 events. At the end of the night, the scoreboard stated 185-113, in favor of the good guys.
“Tonight was a testament to the continuing theme of Lehigh University’s dominance over Lafayette,” stated head coach Rob Herb. “There was no standout tonight on our side, this was a team victory in which everyone contributed.”
Throughout the night, a plethora of Mountain Hawks recorded multiple wins for Lehigh. Payton Miles and Sarah Hardy won three events, while Liz Olszewski, Anna Francisco, Ann Foley and Tori Connolly each racked up two wins.
Multiple records were broken on the night as well. Both Lehigh relay teams shattered pool records in front of a huge crowd. In the 100 back, Francisco broke the pool record with a new time of 55.91. In the 100 free, Miles raced past her opponents and finished with an amazing time of 50.29, while then also breaking a pool record In the 50 free with a time of 23.39.. Then in the 200 fly, the freshman Hardy won with a time of 2:01.70, while Malia Wolf recorded a time of 55.50 in the 100 fly.
In the 200 medley relay, the team of Anna Thomas, Francisco, Hardy and Miles came in first with a time of 1:44.78, while the 800 free relay team of Sam Gallego, Megan Judge, Foley and Connolly raced past their competition and won with a time of 7:24.40.
In the 200 back, Sophia Poeta finished first with a time of 2:03.18 and Nicole Shek captured a first-place finish in the 100 IM at 58.71.

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lafayette men and women’s swim team continued their season last night in a dual meet against Lehigh. Although the Leopards fell short, it was not without new school records, and many new top 10 all time times.
Event Winners:
Michael Gorgan started off the winning action for the Leopards, finishing first in the 100 yard breast in a time of 56.33. His winning time was almost two seconds faster than the second place finisher. He also came back later to win the 200 yard breast in a time of 2:03.84. His winning time was a little over four seconds faster than the second place finisher.
Eden Ephraim also got in on the winning action, finishing first in the 3 meter diving event, with a final score of 150.90.
The final win of the night for the Leopards came in the 1 meter diving event, with Jordan Thaler taking home first place with a final score of 176.48.
New School Records:
It was a historic night for the Leopards, as four school records were broken.
The first new school record belongs to Justin Lloyd in the 1000 meter free as his time of 9:20.90 broke his previous record by a whopping 14 seconds. This shattering time was good enough for second place in the race.
As previously stated earlier, with Gorgan winning the 100 yard breast in a time of 56.33, he also broke the pool record by a time of 0.17 seconds.
The women also broke two school records as well, with the first belonging to Sydney Perks. In the 1000 yard free, her time of 10:24.56 broke Courtney Siegel’s 1995 record by a whole six seconds. Her time was good enough for second place in the race.
The final school record from last night belonged to Haleigh Marzano. Marzanofinished third in the 100 yard IM in a time of 1:01.70. This time broke the previous record held by Tara Leininger and Lauren Lapsley by one second.
New All Time Top 10 Performances:
The big meet continued for the Leopards, as in total, there were 15 new all time top 10 marks.
On the men’s side, Justin Lloyd (200, 500, 1000 yard free), Michael Gorgan (100 and 200 yard breast), and Louie Franzone (200 free relay) added their names on the list.
On the women’s side, Sydney Perks (500 free, 1000 free, 200 back), Maya Imperial (100 IM, 200 fly), Lauren Lapsley (200 fly), Lindsey Monaco (200 fly), Emily Wilson (50 free relay), and Danielle Carr (100 back) all cemented their names into this vaunted list.
Sportsmanship Award:
The Bill Lawson Memorial Sportsmanship Award for the athlete that best demonstrates values and leadership was given to a member on both the Lafayette and Lehigh team. The winner for the Leopards was Bryce Currie.
“Overall it was a great meet with an enormous amount of energy between the two teams,” said head coach James Dailey.

The Leopards next meet does not come until January 14th against Saint Peter’s, but the team heads down on their annual trip to Plantation, Florida from January 5th-12th for their winter training session.
