Katie Ledecky Wins 200, 400, and 800 Frees at Indiana Meet (RACE VIDEO)

Katie Ledecky’s weekend at the Indiana University-hosted senior circuit meet, her first competition on her way down from altitude training in Colorado Springs, wasn’t quite as impressive as her last year (where she broke two World Records).

Don’t let that fool you though – she still had a better June weekend than any women’s distance swimmer has had.

Above, thanks to Haley Lips and the coaching staff at Indiana University, is the video of Ledekcy’s 800 meter freestyle from Thursday, where she started off right on World Record pace, and wound up about five seconds short in 8:16.40.

Below is a video of her 400 free, where Ledecky finished in 4:01.81.

Both times would rank among the top 10 in history, though of course Ledecky has far surpassed those times herself.

At this summer’s World Championship meet, Ledecky will swim the 200, 400, 800, and 1500 meter freestyles, as well as an expected spot on the American 800 free relay. She will be a heavy favorite to win gold in at least 4 races, and as her speed continues to improve, will have a shot in the individual 200 as well.

Other Ledecky results from this weekend:

  • 100 free – 55.48
  • 200 free – 1:56.78 (video below)
  • 400 IM – 4:41.70

Well…according to another SwimSwam thread…she was just “tooling” around at a scrub senior meet.

That was in comparison to the Olympics. This is a training meet for KL, that’s the point, and I stand by that no matter how you choose to misconstrue it.

Her 400 and 800 times are dominant but her 200 isn’t.

A lot of that has to do with competition being a lot stronger in the 200 free.

And yet I think she will soon break the WR in the 200 free.

Thanks for the videos. It’s nice.
Do you have her 400 IM? I want to watch her be in agony on breaststroke and then watch her rediscover that wonderful feeling of freedom on freestyle. 🙂

We are so used to seeing KL swim crazy fast that, we the fans, risk being disappointed now when she doesn’t break world records or worse, being jaded.
But it’s her fault! She’s too good! 🙂
At this meet she swam top 10 times in history in the 400 free and the 800 free. It’s huge!
We must enjoy these golden years for women’s mid-distance/distance swimming.
KL is a once or-twice-in-a-lifetime talent.
