After scoring a new meet record of 7:48.97 to take the 800m free last night, 19-year-old Jon Jontvedt followed up with a victory in the 400m free to close out the Bergen Swim Festival.
Getting to the wall in 3:49.37, Jontvedt once again beat out Olympian Henrik Christiansen, with Christiansen settling for silver in 3:50.74. The pair represented the sole two swimmers to get under the 4:00 barrier in the race.
The World Aquatics ‘A’ standard for this summer’s World Championships rests at 3:48.15, so Jontvedt fell just over a second off of that benchmark.
The man who became Norway’s first-ever sub-22 second 50m freestyler was back in the water, as Nicholas Lia took on the three rounds of the 50m free.
Earlier in the meet Lia punched a new Norwegian national record of 21.98 on the front half of his individual 100m free. He came close to that mark once again in the first round of the individual 50m free event, clocking a mark of 22.05.
Ultimately it was Perry Laarhoven who secured the 50m free gold in teh final round, hitting 24.13 for the top spot.
The women’s 50m free saw Malene Rypestol become the champion, with her final round time checking in at 26.64. She posted marks of 26.18 and 27.12 in the 2nd and 3rd rounds, respectively.
