The B.R. POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of Competitive Aquatics/Head Coach will provide direct leadership, instruction and motivation to all swim team participants in a safe and positive environment. This position is responsible for administrating the total operations of the swim team including program planning and daily management, age-group and senior-level athlete development, oversight and development of coaches and assistant coaches, composition of training programs, and the promotion of both competitive swimming and the Y.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Develops strategies for the competitive aquatics department focused on increasing participation and skill level of those participating.
2. Develops the annual operating goals, objectives and plan for the competitive aquatics department that carries out the strategies.
3. Manages the day-to-day operations of the swim team, ensuring that the program complies with all Y policies and procedures and recommended USA Swimming Guidelines.
4. Oversees and manages the adherence to all policies and procedures associated with local, state, regional and national swimming associations and governing bodies to which the swim team is a part of or is responsible to.
5. Monitors the achievement of this plan, taking appropriate action to ensure that the goals and objectives are met.
6. Promotes Swim Team and the Y with existing and potential swim team members.
7. Responsible for the overall safety of all swimmers, families and meet invitees that enter the aquatics area. Able to respond to safety and emergency situations in an effective, efficient manner.
8. Responds to all swim team families and community inquiries and comments in a professional, timely manner.
9. Hires and supervises all competitive aquatics department staff. Ensures records of staff certifications are current and complete, as well as provides ongoing training.
10. Provides leadership in the planning and coordination of Y special events and community outreach activities, as needed.
11. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience.
2. 3+ years of swim coaching experience.
3. 3+ years experience as a competitive swimmer.
4. USA Swimming Coach or ASCA Level 1 and principles of YMCA Competitive Swimming Certification preferred.
5. Certification requirements include: Lifeguard certification, CPR/AED for the professional rescuer or CPR/AED for lifeguards, First Aid, Pool Operator – preferred.
6. Excellent personal computer skills and experience with standard business software.
7. Must have good interpersonal and communications skills, including the ability to make presentations.

Coaches will need to acquire their USA Swimming Coaches certification within 90 days of joining the club, and will need to complete a background check before hiring if they do not currently hold USAS certifications. This is a part time, year round position. Hourly compensation begins at $20hr with growth to $26 upon completion of certifications.
Coaches will work primarily with our Stroke School (developmental 10 and under) Speed School (developmental 11-14) and Age Group (competitive 10 and under) groups. Hours available are Mon-Fri from 330-730pm, but will average 8-12 per week. Coaches will need to be able to be on their feet or in the water for 2-3 hours at a time, actively moving throughout practices. During the summer, coaches will also be outdoors. Coaches with current USAS certifications can make themselves available for swim meets that can be as much as 20 hours 1-2 weekend(s) per month.

Job responsibilities will be assigned by the Head Coach and will include coaching, recruiting, event management (visiting team & officials liaison), operations (pool switches), facilities’ management (timing equipment & scoreboard/video upkeep), camps, and alumni relations.
Qualifications
Proven experience with attracting and successfully recruiting qualified candidates to the college/university level within NCAA regulations.
Proven experience and passion for technical development and growth of athletes in competitive swimming.
Seeking a detail-oriented, team-oriented and organized individual.
Social Media Skills including proven ability to creatively design material to positively promote the program.
Two years of coaching experience at the collegiate level.
Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred.
Additional Eligibility Requirements
Must be eligible to work in the United States of America, without sponsorship.
Must be eligible to work on a military installation, including a willingness to submit to a background screen.
Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Summary: In addition to leading skill-based swim and water safety instruction to people of all ages and abilities, the Program Manager is responsible for the daily operations at a specific location.
