The Preserve Piranhas Swim Team is accepting applications for the position of Head Swim Coach for Summer 2025. Candidates should have a strong background in High School or College Swimming, be well-organized, and be strong communicators to both students and adults.

The Preserve Piranhas Swim Team is a summer swim program for Ages 6 – 18, plus a development program for ages 3-6, and is part of the Rocky Mountain Swim League (RMSL). Roughly 100 local kids participate on the team each summer and the home pool is short course meters (outdoor) and located in Greenwood Village, CO. The team is governed by the Preserve Piranhas Swim Team Board comprised of volunteer parent representatives. We are committed to fostering a source of fun, joy, and meaning for the kids and building a sense of community in the neighborhood through competitive swimming and team building.

Job Details:
• Contribute to and advance the team mission. Provide coaching to ensure swimmer development and promote positive team dynamics. Implement and improve the existing program to attract and retain swimmers. Provide positive representation of the team locally, regionally, and nationally.
• Exhibit professionalism and comply with the RMSL Coaches Code of Conduct.
• Responsible for managing 5 – 7 assistant and junior coaches across all age groups and communicating directly with team parents.
• Train and coach participants by teaching stroke work, competition, and personal development.
• Design and adhere to the practice schedule for the season and ensure Preserve pool deck is returned to “open swim” setup after practices (e.g., removing lane lines, keeping secure gate closed). Practices are likely to begin Monday, May 19th and end on Friday, July 11th, 2025 (afternoon practices in May, morning practices in June/July).
• Attend scheduled meets to include all intersquad, dual/tri, and championship meets for the summer swim team.
• Responsible for the safety of participants and coaches while always adhering to policies and procedures.
• Review all meet entries, oversee relay selection, and adhere to deadlines set by Preserve Meet Manager and RMSL for weekly meet entry submissions. Review meet results (including DQs) and work with swimmers to inspire and improve performance.
• Track all scratches and alternate swimmers on day of swim meet as needed.
• Monitor weather and communicate changes to practice type (e.g., dryland) or cancellation promptly to Preserve Piranha swim community.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by Preserve Piranhas Board.

Job Requirements:
• Competitive swimming background with solid knowledge of, and ability to teach, competitive strokes, starts, and turns.
• Available for the entire season, with minimal exception; all practices, stroke clinics, meets, events, prelims, and finals.
• Ability to effectively coach and train large numbers of children.
• Ability to communicate with members, staff, and the public in a courteous and effective manner.
• Completion of concussions training (per RMSL policy); current CPR certification, SafeSport, and Concussion training required prior to start of season.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Must pass a drug and background screening.

Salary Range:
Season stipend: $5,500 – $6,500, depending on experience.

The Swarthmore Swim Club (SSC) Seasharks are seeking an experienced Head Coach for the 2025 Suburban Swim League (SSL) (http://www.ssl-summer.com/) swim season. We are looking for an energetic, motivated individual to lead approximately 125 swimmers of all ability levels in our developmental and competitive summer swim league, as well as coordinate and manage our assistant and volunteer coaches. The ideal candidate has head coaching experience, strong leadership and communication skills, the ability to connect with children from grades K-12, and an infectious enthusiasm for the sport of swimming. In addition, the job requires Hy-Tek Meet Manager and TeamUnify proficiency. The candidate will work closely with the SSC Board, SSC general manager and swim team parent representatives to carry out the many day-to-day responsibilities of the coaching staff.

Practices & Meets:

New swimmer evaluations are typically held at Swarthmore College Ware Pool the week before Memorial Day. Afternoon indoor practices generally begin the Tuesday after Memorial Day in the early evening. Once Wallingford-Swarthmore School District (WSSD) public schools have ended for the school year, practices are held outdoors at SSC in the afternoon and early evening Monday-Friday divided by age and ability. Varsity meets are held on Wednesday evenings and intersquad and unofficial meets,  events, or clinics may take place on an occasional weekend morning in consultation with the coach. The season ends with A Champs, typically held the last Saturday in July. Practice and meet schedules are subject to change and the practice schedule can be adjusted based on the swim coach’s availability.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Promote a fun, safe, and team-oriented environment
  • Be a role model for the swimmers, especially in the older age groups
  • Identify age- and skill-appropriate drills for each age group to include stroke, starts, turns, etc.
  • Plan and run practices for each age group

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Work directly with the Experience and Operations teams to plan and deliver the Competitive Sports programs for the Harrisburg Area YMCA with a focus on the Competitive Aquatics program.
  2. Manage all aspects of the Harrisburg Area YMCA Competitive Aquatics Programs including assigned coaching staff, schedules, curriculum, budget, event coordination, communications, and training.
  3. Plan, promote, and execute association-wide meets, events, and experiences to increase program revenues while offering unique competitive opportunities to all athletes. Assist in all aspects of meet/tournament management including entries, setup, and breakdown.
  4. Coordinate Harrisburg Area YMCA Coaching Staff to ensure consistency in programming, safety, and operations at all YMCA hosted meets, events, and tournaments.
  5. Oversee the training and competitive plans and goals of all YMCA competitive programs to provide opportunities for all athletes to reach their full potential in their chosen sport.
  6. Work with High School Junior and Senior athletes in their pursuit of collegiate athletics.

In collaboration with the staff coaches and administrative teams, develop processes and practices that increase operational efficiency to improve the experience of families engaged in YMCA competitive sports programs.   8. Responsible for growth within competitive sports programs at all Harrisburg Area YMCA locations. Plan annual recruiting drives, oversee roster and retention planning for all age group training. Plan and provide opportunities for placement/tryouts for new athletes throughout the year.
  9. Provide a safe and supportive environment for all participants, including strict adherence to the Praesidium program, aquatic safety plan, and Safe Sport requirements.
  10. Lead all staff meetings and training opportunities as deemed necessary.
  11. Alongside the Aquatics Directors, Sports Directors and Branch Directors, responsible for coordinating YMCA pool use of YMCA Swim teams, Volleyball Tournaments and serving as Meet Director for YMCA-hosted high school swim meets.
  12. Ability to work flexible hours including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  13. Ability to travel to meets or tournaments or find appropriate coaching coverage for athletes as approved by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Preferred four-year degree from an accredited college and experience in competitive swimming as a student athlete.
  2. Minimum of 10 years swim coaching experience required or equivalent competitive team management.
  3. Current certifications in BLS/Professional Rescuer CPR, First Aid, Athlete Protection Training and ASCA level 4 or higher, and lifeguarding preferred. YMCA Swim Coach certification/registration required within 30 days of hire.
  4. Must have strong leadership, interpersonal skills and supervisory experience.
  5. Strong understanding of fiscal management and the budget process.

They must be able to maneuver the grounds and facilities freely and be capable of speaking clearly, including, but not limited to walking, stooping, carrying minimum of 50 lbs., sitting, standing, pushing, climbing, kneeling, lifting minimum of 50 lbs., and crouching. A valid drivers license and reliable transportation is required.
