Coaching Requirements

1. Current USA Swimming Coaches Certification or ability to achieve such prior to starting.

Coaching Duties

1. Develop and execute training plans for assigned training groups.
2. Oversee training for the Masters, Developmental, and Competitive training groups to which you are assigned.
3. Select all individual and relay events at swim meets for athletes in assigned training groups as directed by the Head Coach.
4. Responsible for the behavior, discipline, and actions of athletes during practices, competitions, and other organized team activities.
5. Establish an environment that fosters positive individual and team attitudes, encourages self-discipline, sportsmanship, and responsibility.

Qualifications:
• Minimum of 5 years of coaching experience; Level 3 coaching certification preferred.

The Wahoo’s Head Coach is responsible for carrying out all functions related to the successful program implementation of the Wahoo swim team groups he/she is assigned to.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Coaching

• Develops a seasonal plan for dryland and pool.
• The Head Coach must arrive 10-15 minutes prior to assigned practices and be appropriately dressed.

Full time Swim Coach/ Meet Director

The Pacifica Sea Lions Aquatic Club (PSL) seeks a highly qualified individual for the position of Head Swim Team Coach. 

PSL is a local, community-focused club with 160 USA Swimming registered swimmers training and competing under the Pacifica Sea Lions name as one of Northern San Mateo County’s most successful and established competitive swim teams with over 60 years of tradition and history. PSL is a year-round competitive program that offers opportunities for all levels of swimmers. The team supports a broad range of swimmers, from the 6-year-old beginner to the 18-year-old National Qualifier. Our mission at the Pacifica Sea Lions is to inspire our members to achieve their maximum swimming potential through high-quality coaching and self-motivation with the goal of team unity in a safe and supportive environment for all.

Our highly-trained and qualified coaching professionals guide each swimmer’s career from entry-level to National competition. We focus on training the whole athlete, including mental and emotional health, dryland exercise (which includes injury prevention routines and strength & conditioning circuits), training and racing strategies, and a strong emphasis on technical proficiency in the water. A primary focus is teamwork and building a strong sense of community in a safe environment.  

Our team trains in the Jean E. Brink Pool, a 10-lane, 25-yard short-course indoor aquatics facility located at Oceana High School in Pacifica, California. PSL hosts multiple competitions per year with the support of its family volunteers. The head coach must be dedicated to sustaining and strengthening our high-performance and comprehensive swim program by cultivating excellence in athletes in the pool and in their lives.

BASIC FUNCTIONS – HEAD COACH

• Promotes and encourages a positive, progressive, inclusive, supportive, and winning culture while being a pervasive leader, serving as the Head Coach for the entire team.
• Staffs and assigns assistant coaching staff as appropriate to all practices, team events, and competitions.
• Serves as the primary PSL coaching point of contact for team coaches, the PSL member community, Zone 1 North, Pacific Swimming, and USA Swimming.

Full Time – Senior Assistant Coach/ Age Group Coach

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Responsible for developing our Jr & Sr group program swimmers (ages 13-18 – A swimmers & above) to be ready to compete at the State, Sectional, National & Collegiate levels
  • Develop and maintain season and quadrennial plans for the Sr Group that shows increased knowledge of the progression of our age group program and develops innovative techniques that show success and improvement. (This includes yardage and technique goals as well as how the group is being differentiated).
  • Responsible for writing a monthly report on the prior month’s success, needs for improvement, and goals for the next month.
• Responsible for attending important Gulf Meetings such as House of Delegates, Board of Directors, and Technical Planning meetings and sharing the information on how it impacts ESA.
• Schedule pool time, practices & meets
  • Set the next month’s pool rental schedule with the school district liaison by the 15^th of each month
  • Set up long course pool time during the summer months
• Hire, train, and maintain staff
• Develop contracts for staff
• Responsible for strategic planning such as managing group size, staffing, and determining whether changes need to be implemented for the best of ESA.
• Invoice meets entry fees monthly on Team Unify
• Maintain Team records
• Help maintain ESA equipment
• Send a weekly email with a schedule and events to the senior group.
• Send a weekly newsletter to the team with a schedule and events.
• Assist & Mentor the Head Age Group Coach as needed.
• Responsible for helping maintain a safe atmosphere by adhering to all USA swimming rules and regulations and providing positive and constructive feedback to our swimmers and parents.
  • Attend daily practice Monday – Saturday for Jr & Sr groups, as well as attend meets as scheduled/needed.
  • Supervise swimmers in the pool area at all times.
  • Teaching/training groups of swimmers between the ages of 11-18 (BB swimmers & High school aged athletes).
  • Give instruction and feedback on training & technique
  • Communicate with parents and swimmers; meet information, results, and feedback.
  • Greet, acknowledge, and interact with members at all times.

Leads the programming, planning , and development of the Plantation Swim Teams Age Group (14 and Under ) programs under the general supervision of the Swim Team Coach .

Typical Qualifications
Extensive knowledge of competitive swimming, including instruction and coaching.

Working knowledge of United States (USA) Swimming; USA Masters Swimming and FHSAA High School rules.

Knowledge of any Timing systems, set up and operation, and ability to train staff in same, with preference for Colorado Timing Systems (CTS).

Ability to plan swim team schedules; daily, monthly and seasonal, including practices, competitions, travel and training.

Highly skilled in the promotion of team spirit and good sportsmanship conduct.

Ability to interact with parents and athletes on all levels, as well as be responsible for the safety and welfare of team members.

Ability to assist in the facilitation of high school, college and other visiting team practices and events.

Ability to assist with swim meet setup, including timing systems, meet information, computer entries, heat sheets, meet operations and results.

Ability to work for extended periods of time in sunny, hot and humid conditions, and maintain the safety of swimmers under such conditions.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

Must be registered USA Swim Coach, which requires current CPR, First Aid and Safety Training for Swim Coaches.

Current US Masters Swim Coach Certification or ability to obtain when required.

Certifications must be maintained during employment.

Previous coaching and /or competitive swimming experience is required.

Preferred, 5 or more years of experience in high school level competitive swimming and coaching.

Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the required knowledge, abilities and skills may be considered.

Smith College Swimming & Diving Graduate Assistant Coach
