Job Description:

Position Summary

Serving as the chief administrative officer for the aquatics area, provide leadership in aquatic area management and programming in the Student Recreation Center including maintenance, collaboration, staffing, and operation.  In addition, provide leadership and quality year round programming for youth in grades Pre-School-12.  Serve as the Risk Management Officer for the Department of Recreation and Wellness by providing American Red Cross Health and Safety programming for both professional and student staffs in the Student Recreation Center and Perry Field House.  Review, monitor, and maintain risk management procedures for the department. This position has many other related duties and is in Bowling Green, Ohio. Deadline to apply: August 3rd, 2018

Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities

Aquatic Programs

Rental Coordination:

  • Coordinate and oversee all Student Recreation Center aquatic rentals, equipment, and personnel, including aquatic maintenance collaboration and custodial services.
  • Schedule and coordinate aquatic instructional, intramural, sport club, intercollegiate, group rental, and program activities in cooperation with other RecWell staff.
  • Initiate aquatics contracts for major rental groups, small groups and individuals using approved template and negotiating rates.

Staffing:

  • Conduct the selection, training, assignment, in-service education, and supervision of all aquatics staff (Aquatics Graduate Assistant, Crew Chiefs, Lifeguards, and additional aquatics staff).

Budget Management:

  • Monitor student employee, instructional, and equipment lines of the Aquatic budget.

Youth & Family Programs

Program Development and Management:

  • Create, recommend, and implement a comprehensive Youth & Family program plan which considers space utilization, equipment needs, budget regulation, safety and emergency procedures, and quality standards.
  • Plan, implement, supervise, and evaluate Youth & Family programs:  Learn to Swim, Summer Day Camp, Birthday Party Program, School’s Out Camp, Spring Break Camp, and Parent’s Night Out.
  • Regularly review and evaluate the effectiveness of all Youth & Family programs.

Staff Training and Policy Development/Management:

  • Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate Youth & Family program staff (Youth & Family staff, Birthday Party Coordinator, Birthday Party Hosts/Hostesses, Summer Camp Counselors and Instructors) while maintaining an environment that encourages professional development and personal growth.

Compliance Standards:

  • Monitor and enforce State of Ohio Job & Family summer day camp compliance issues.

Budget Management:

  • Monitor student employee, instructional, and equipment lines of the Youth & Family budget.

Health & Safety Programs

Maintain Standards:

  • Liaison with American Red Cross to maintain standard of care and compliance issues.
  • Maintain current certifications and updates to properly train Health & Safety Staff with current standards of care within the industry.
  • Regularly review and evaluate the effectiveness of all Health & Safety programs.

Administration:

  • Schedule and coordinate Health & Safety instructional programming for the entire Department of Recreation and Wellness, as well as the community.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive Health & Safety program which considers space utilization, equipment needs, budget regulation, safety, and quality standards.
  • Plan, implement, supervise, and evaluate Health & Safety Programs:  Lifeguard Training, Lifeguard Recertification, CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED Full Course, CPR/PR with AED Challenge, Standard First Aid, Water Safety Instructor Course, and Lifeguard Instructor Course.

Risk Audit Component:

  • Develop and implement Recreational Sports Risk Management Audit Standards.
  • Train all supervisors how to properly implement the Risk Audit to their student employee staff.

Professional Commitment and Service to Campus Community

  • Serve on a variety of University committees, assist in the conduct of various Student Affairs programs, serve as a resource aid and counselor for Recreation and Wellness student employees, especially those employed in the aquatic, youth & family, health & safety areas.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Aquatics programming experience.
  • Youth and family programming experience.
  • Positive human relation skills.
  • Aquatic facility management experience
  • Health & Safety programming experience (CPR/FA, Lifeguard Training classes, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience and success in personnel management.
  • Demonstrated communication skills.
  • Strong orientation toward customer service.
  • Basic computer skills – Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Internet, and recreation management software.
  • Knowledge of promotional concepts.
  • Additional qualities include being:

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree required, in Physical Education, Recreation, Recreation Administration, Sports Administration, or a related field.

Required experience:

Aquatic:

  • 6-12 months experience with pool management, operation and maintenance
  • 6-12 months experience supervising staff

Preferred experience:

Youth & Family:

  • 1 year experience in youth programming preferred

Licenses, certifications, or registrations that are required to qualify for this position:

Required:

  • CPR for the Professional Rescuer with AED Instructor
  • First Aid Instructor
  • Lifeguard Instructor
  • Water Safety Instructor

Required within six months of start date:

  • CPR/PR IT (Instructor Trainer)
  • LGIT (Instructor Trainer)
  • WSIT (Instructor Trainer)
  • Certified Pool Operator

Salary

Full-time, Administrative staff position available. Administrative Grade Level 353. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Full benefit package available.
